    Ah well...

What's the betting that the sales of GTA IV in America rise, followed - after about 6 months - by a rise in the number of cases of car thefts, stabbings, shootings, possession of illegal weapons, carjackings, hijackings and general crime and a constant increase in the number of defence cases with the lines "The game made me do it" in?

Thailand is crazy. Remember when it nationally blocked Youtube for containing material that was critical of the King?

I bet there's tons of stuff that's banned there.

Is Thaialnd like China in terms of how the internet is moderated?

If it doesn't agree with the opinion of the authorities... somewhere, it's not allowed...

Didn't China block google for a while 'cus it had "imflammatory" material on it?

Yeah, China's real bad. Not sure about Thailand though, you don't hear them crop up much when it comes to videogames, apart from being a good place to buy copied games.

Re: Headlines - Murder leads to GTA IV ban in Thailand

It shouldn't be too much of a problem for adults who play the game, but that's not how it works in Thailand. Many teenagers under suggested age have played the GTAs including the previous releases mostly on playstations platform while many parents gave very little concern what their children played. Think about how the violent content of the game could effect these teenagers; There is no doubt it was very reasonable to ban GTAs game in Thailand.

Re: Headlines - Murder leads to GTA IV ban in Thailand

Very reasonable to ban a game because one person cannot seperate virtuality and reality? Or because Thai parents don't care what there children play?

Banning the game from being in the possession of those below the age rating MIGHT work, and setting a fine for parents or even a short prison sentence (as in... a few weeks) might encourage more rigourous sentences.

However, baning a game form the country seems a little harsh.

Besides - there's one person that has blamed this game. How many copies of the game have sold? This is an isolated case, or rather, could be. At least, I'll view it at such until you provide more evidence to prove that the violent content of GTA IV affects teenagers.

Re: Headlines - Murder leads to GTA IV ban in Thailand

Obviously its a knee jerk reaction, but the point about age restrictions is valid.

It should be just as hard to buy an 18 video game as it is to rent or buy an 18 dvd, but for some reason video game ratings aren't taken as seriously.

This goes back to the moms and the dads, who know nowt about it, and still think video games are for kids.
