Well, the best possible scenario may have been Win7 being a Vista SP (assuming it's reasonable - to me, the difference is greater than Win98 -> Win98SE) and still have this introductory offer. As I find it quite unlikely, that they would work on what would have been a very major service pack and drop the price to the level of the introductory offer, I'd say that this deal works out fantastically for me. Of my several systems, only one is on Vista (laptop came with it). The rest are all on XP. So for me, this is the next best scenario.
Common opinion and mine is that Windows 7 is what vista should have been. I admit I am used to vista now but have been tinkering with W7 RC and don't feel its that different. Sure it installs far quicker and things seem to be in different places but I haven't really noticed it any quicker over vista sp2 may have to delve a bit deeper me thinks.

the thing is if you have windows vista do you really need to upgrade? Its your choice, just the same as any other market like mobile phones!. For example you bought the iphone 3g, then the gs comes out which is alot mor expensive however you dont need to upgrade to it!. Atleast microsoft are putting direct x 11 on vista!.
The task bar is a must have for me. It makes using Vista seem like a chore just because of 1 small change
Paying for a retail licence for that feature alone seems madness though........but I just got work to pay for a technet sub for me.....I guess where there's a will, there's a way
As for the iPhone comparison....if the new iPhone only had a couple of small software changes, would you expect them to be added to the old iPhone for free or for a very small nominal fee? Because there is a massive difference between hardware and software....
At the very least, yet we both know the introductory offer prices are not hanging around, in fact the lowest one has already sold out everywhere I beleive....won't be long before all are full-priced again and the M$ money-printing machine continues on it's way....

EU fines a joke. where's all that cash going to go. Make Bill plough it in to his charity work where it would do more good then lining the EU's pockets.
