According to Wikipedia, Gmail was only made available to the public via invitation on April 1 2004. This would mean that the $100 rebate is limited to those who got a Gmail account within 8 months of the service being released which IMO is unreasonable. For Google it makes perfect sense of course as they get to quote $99 while that price is only true for a minority of people generating plenty of hype, but if they just wanted to spread Android among the population then a more sensible account age is roughly 3 years, when Gmail came out of the invite only phase.
Well according to a rumour on another site...
$530 unlocked.
$180 when put on a two year contract.
$350 for early termination of the contract.
Expensive...
