Oh I agree totally. I'm very anti-Google & anti-Apple these days, which has earned me a rep of Microsoft 'fanboi' - I wear the badge proudly

Do you happen to use Spybot and/or Spywareblaster? If so, they are known to cause problems with IE8

Never used Opera but I see it in a bad light ever since it caused that massive fuss for Microsoft when it complained to the EU. The whole company comes across as whiny.

Nope dont have eiether spybot or spyware blaster.

I am very anti apple as well. IMO apple is defiantly worse than MS. installing all the apple programs when you just want one was one of the things that put me off them.
plus the fact that all apple products are mostly based on looks rather than function and arent as well made as other products.

I do think apple is a childish company. at every apple product launch the first thing they do is say microsoft is crap but dont really tell you why they think their products are better.
The problem with google is that people think they are a nice company and have tons of great products not knowing all the data google knows about them.

Do you use Skype at all? Betting it is a problem with a rogue add-in. Check the load time in the Internet Options.

on another forum someone said if you want to sign up for a new gmail accounts they want your mobile number...

I unticked all install options for skype except start skype after installation.

blank tabs take like 4 seconds to open where as a new tab on opera or firefox is instant.

Wouldn't matter, the add-in would still get installed. Check the Manage Add-ons dialog anywa - just in case! You can find it under Tools > Manage Add-ons.

The IE team posted about it on the blog, if I can find a link I let ya know.

Edit* Here is a KB support article.
Edit** And here is the blog post I talked about.

You aren't exactly helping your case for internet explorer with arguments like this. You're basically saying that many add-ons cause your browser to suck. Might I suggest a switch to Firefox? Or even Chrome (has a nice assortment of add-ons now)? Both browsers still perform very well with multiple add-ons installed.

I'm not an internet explorer fan at the moment but having said that I do look forward to seeing MS actually become competitive in the browser space (they mentioned at some point after IE8 was released that they're dedicating a lot more resources to developing IE9). And no, I don't consider gaining the majority of market-share through making your browser the default as competitive; what I mean is matching their competitors with features (improved with IE8 but still has ways to go), stability, add-on development (a nightmare in IE) and (for the love of GOD) web standards and performance.

What? I'm not saying that at all mate. It is hardly IE's fault is it? It's the bloody Skype plugin that is causing the massive slowdown. You might wanna read the whole thread and every post in detail before you jump in

Just installed an extension for AutoPage in Chrome, and I'm loving it! Although it doesn't want to work with Hexus (hits report bug), works fine at AVForums though
