Jesus tap dancing Christ! That's bloody fast.

    I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!

Problem is though... what is the upload on this going to be?

    Probably 2Mbps #

100Mbps is nice, but will Virgin allow you to enjoy it? for general heavy users its going to be severely overkill since you're still reliant on your source for download speed.

    Nope - none at all.

The 50 Mb connections have no traffic management at all applied to the connection whatever you download, and I expect that this will not as well.

There was a day I downloaded well over 30 Gb of data from steam, D&D online as well as Guild wars and the WoW website ( I installed all the games again onto a new shiney HDD and reactivated my account) and there was no slowdown at all.

Awesome as long as you don't live in one of the many stupidly-over-subscribed areas......my brothers VM connection has been un-usable (1000-3000ms ping, basic web pages taking 20 secs to START loading, etc) since November......VM keep stringing him along with "We will fix it in a couple of weeks".......and now it's almost March.

Checking the threads of the VM community forums make you realise it is not isolated in the slightest either.......

Damn you Virgin, Why won't you cable my hill.... I still don't understand why its 'to steep' to cable (what I have been told a couple of times when i have rung up to question them), I think the reality is the contractors who did my area got to the hill on a friday afternoon and decided they would rather be in the pub so put some comment on their worksheet saying the hill is to steep :-(

Question Re: News - Virgin to roll-out 100 Mbps broadband by end of year

Do Virgin have a static IP option for those who've got their own web/mail/ftp servers?

Nope though the IP addresses are quite sticky and don't tend to change very often.

they could offer 1000000000Mb but I would still only get around 1 or 2Mb out of it. No point doing this until they sort out all areas of their network.

Lots of investment in improving the network it seems but still no plans to expand it?

No cable in my region at all (and that includes all the urban areas).

I hear bad things about each ISP and good things about each ISP. Rule of the thumb is that you generally get more complaints than praise as people are often more geared up in this country to complain about something, as opposed to stating how good it is

As such, I've got their '50 Mb' and I get 100% full speed 24/7 with no throttling or management and I'm happy with it. I've had to reboot my router once since installation and this was only because I did a firmware upgrade on it so that the USB 'network-share port' worked even better.

Though they have already publicly stated that it will come into force as more customers go for higher speeds.

I would imagine that 50Mb will get traffic managed when 100Mb appears.

I'm with Lee on this one, its easy to hate. I also receive a consistent service form them 24-27Mbps on the 20Mb package is something of a god send in relation to broadband in this country.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
