I've heard rumours that the GTX460 will support the bitstream of HD audio codecs like DOLBY TrueHD and DTS-MA does anybody know any more about this?

Could be interesting if true for fans of NVIDIA cards who are building HTPC's as previously they can only support 7.1 LPCM

Which version? The GF104-based 460 or the GF100-based 460? If it's not already on the 465/470/480 then I don't think we'll see it on the GF100-based 460 either. The gf104 however.. who knows?

    I thought the GTX 460 was GF104 based anyway? I didn't think there was a GF100 based 460 due?

I appreciate the GF100 is not capable of bitstreaming the audio codecs but as the GF104 chip is a new design they have been able to implement this feature.

I guess we'll find out next week

Hopefully not, but there is at least one source claiming even more cut down GF100 are also going to be sold as 460s.

Re: News - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 now at Newegg...kind of

Not to say more features aren't good but i would of thought 7.1 LPCM was more desirable than DTS/DD-HD ?

On the other hand not everything [media wise] has a LPCM output so i guess thats a reason why you would want the extra outputs.

And one last thing, when are these cards actually released, we've had a goods month worth of hype but I've yet to see a release date myself, can anyone prod me in the right direction ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: News - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 now at Newegg...kind of

I'll be interested to see the design of this, given that the Fermi (gf100) core runs in non-divisible groups of 32 - if gf104 is the same basic design it would mean they've found a way to turn half blocks off (which AFAIK is not possible with gf100)...

*edit: from kalniel's fudzilla link there's 42 texture units which would also support half blocks. Either that or they've scaled down the GPCs to 3 blocks of 8 shaders...? That'd give 14 blocks, so presumably a 16 block die with 2 GPCs disabled? If that's right it's not looking good for yields / price again...

You're getting a little closer to the truth, but not quite there yet.

    Tarinder, you tease

6 shaders per cluster in each GPC instead of 8? Not sure how that accounts for the 42 texture units though... When's that review landing?
