"However, only last month CEO of Activision Bobby Kotick said that if he could do one thing, he would make Call of Duty "an online subscription service" as soon as tomorrow."
I note several of those exec use that horrible "are no plans to do that" phrase. The government had "no plans" to put up VAT either! And both Labour and LibDems "had no plans" .... but nor would they rule it out.
I have no plans to buy bananas next time I'm in a supermarket, but that doesn't mean I won't come home with a bunch. It's a typical piece of politicianese that might mean we're not doing it right now, but certainly doesn't exclude doing it at some future point. Some if their other statements do seem to exclude doing it at any time, but I'd be a lot happier if they avoided that jaded old dodge of "no plans".
subscription based FPS? Doubtful, there's more chance of Saracen actually playing COD
I think they realise the number of customers they'd lose if they went down the sub route anyway. Much ado about nothing methinks.
I actually think people would pay for it. I mean WoW has subscription.
I know I wouldn't but you never know the mass market.
If I was to even consider paying for an online FPS I'd want weekly or fortnightly updates at least.
But the mass market.. I'm afraid to even think.. I really think that if Black Ops was to be a P2L (Pay2Lag) game, people would still buy it in the millions. Thousands and millions of parents all over the country would still buy this game for their kids, unfortunately.
I might pay 2 play if the game was released for free but otherwise no chance Bad enough that map packs and stuff like that are charge for and that MW 2 was only released on steam (pos)
