I love my Android and convinced the mrs to get one.
Ive only got 2 gripes:
1) the galaxy has 2.1 and its a real nightmare to turn off 3g (yes, the mrs has an android phone without internet in her contract). I ended up having to download an ap to do it!
2) HTC Hero... Android 1.5! and i've found no software updates from HTC, now i could probably flash it myself, but at the risk of bricking my phone? GAH!

Three, Orange have done theirs, but Three users are still waiting

I have the Desire and my friend has the X10 there is no contest TBH although her battery seems to die much quicker but she never has it out of her hand. The desire with HTC sense is much much smoother and easy to use but the X10 just seems very laggy even when swiping to the next screen. She does not even bother with Media Scape etc this was laggy before she even integrated anything into it. I can not understand although very similar in spec how much smoother the Desires interface is and it can only get better with the 2.2 Froyo update. I would imagine when the X10 gets the 2.1 update it will be muchly improved, although I do like the phone until then it just dont compare.

Error exists between Keyboard & Chair replace User and press Any Key!
.... Where's the Any Key???
1. 4-5 taps and its off
menu > settings > wireless > mobile > tick use 2g only or pick GSM only {default auto GSM/CDMA}(depends on firmware if it's an tick box or force 2g/3g or/only)
or get an widget app that takes you to the above page
2. quite hard to do that
@others
get an app that can monitor the CPU use so you can remove it ("Android System Info" and the press menu and sort by CPU use do note when Android System info is running it will be using CPU (when it in the tasks page) bad app for power use is Fring is Crap on power use when its on 2g as i found out when my phone was constantly warm due to CPU use 3g/H its ok (it self does not use any CPU when in the background but the total CPU use will be high due to network actively)
Galaxy S i found the best phone i have used the X10 big is good but lacks 2.1, my fault really but i know 2.1 is coming in the next 2-7 months as thats what i call soon for mobile operates in the UK as USA get it first we get it an year later or if they even bother to support the updated firmware at all so missing security updates as well
HTC desire is been very good for me bat life i get most of the time 1.5 days use and thats 3g enabled all the time and me doing Normal use of the phone (G1 was like 3-6hrs with 3g on or mabe an day if 3g was off), if i fitted an bigger bat i guessing i could get 3 days use out of it
the desire is way better then the Ihpone or iplug clone the G1 i had was useless on bat life an 2200mha bat (something the iphone cant do) fixed that and made the phone usable for 2 days with 3g always enabled or 1-2 if i started playing games or video's for quite some hours
the Desire has one other big Flaw as well poor DPI the X10 big, G1 and the samsung S i have here (not mine) have Far better screens then the desire as it Can't make an Flat line as it uses offset dots to make the screen up very annoying on text as its all jaged and cant match the DPI of the screen due to off set dots but its just anooying for the most part but noticeable
Twitter clients also seem to be power-greedy too - oh, and the CoPilot Live nav software is just about unusable on battery - but that's probably to be expected I guess.
Is it just me, or are Android apps that actually have a "Close" button very much in the minority? That's one problem I've come across, the other being that some apps seem to spontaneously launch themselves (into the background) even when I've never used them - the "Moxier" apps that Sony bundle seem to be particularly bad, Advanced Task Killer seems to show them launched daily.
And yes, I realise that someone's going to say "just deinstall them", but I don't really want to do that unless I've got a way to put them back if I need them at some point in the future.
I'm still pretty content with the phone though, and have had no real yearning for an iPhone.
