    chis,

I remember some geek comedian saying how it was soo much better to game on the mac, because you know the game that just came out, because you know, you completed it 5 years ago on the PC.

Steam getting their arse in gear changes little.

The biggest 'proof' that mac lag behind windows in this front is in the new browsers, Safari have released a hardware accelerated version on erm, windows, not osx. Apparently its quite hard to write one under OSX.

TheAnimus: My argument, and I admit it was particularly direct, was more that Mattus gives no good reason as to why Mac gaming supposedly is a waste of time. You elucidate in a more effective manner, for what it's worth.

Sure, the Mac gaming situation pales in comparison to the PC, but Steam does and will make a difference. It's Valve, after all.

Steam is a content delivery platform, it is more the fact they have Source engine now, but the performance is very lacklustre.

If you want games, you are MUCH better off on the PC, with better range, better quality (DirectX) and lower price.

As such I think Mattus is spot on, no one, in their right mind would buy a mac for playing games.

Comparing the OS or the hardware? OS X is crap for games, the hardware less so.

Simply reboot into windows on that Mac for games...

Compare the hardware? All mac fans try to say you can't do that.

Look at the mac pro, you could build something far faster for gaming, at a fraction of the price.

Re: News - Apple refreshes Mac Pro and iMac models

I feel the biggest change here is a shift away from nVidia to ATI. With the news that ATI beat nVidia in market share last quarter this is quite a big shift in the status quo with graphics. nVidia really need some decent news, however perhaps they might realise that being so arrogant eventually brings a fall...

Yes, nothing like having someone else decide which series of graphics cards your allowed to use is there!

I wonder what would happen to these Apple computers if you can buy OS X separately and install them on normal computers you build legally.
