Seems a bit uncessary, would it really affect performance all that much?
doubt it to be honest

I let my mind wander and it didn't come back.....
I bough a 1Gb Ati 4870 back in the day and that was significantly faster than the 512Mb version for what ever reason. I bought it because it was actually only £5 more than a stock 512Mb one. But the gap from 1Gb to 2Gb is so vast and only a large super-HD res screen would make any use of it, in which case you'd want a better GPU anyway. If it was only £10-£15 more then maybe, but £30+ more is too much.
I think if I was going to get a GTX460, I'd go for this.
£30 more, and my 2048x1152 res would probably benefit from the extra memory.
Utterly pointless if you only buy one as the GPU will run out of steam before memory becomes an issue.
In SLI, however more than 1GB per card can be beneficial as you're more likely to hit the 1GB memory limit before the GPU limit. They have to use 2GB rather than anything in between because of the number of memory controllers on the GPU.

Its just plain e-peen
