"If at this point you're imagining the classic young male geek, your stereotyped imagination is right. iPad Critics do tend to be young men. To add even more colour, they tend to have no children and little interest in family."
kind of stupid thing to say when a young man is usually defined as anywhere from 18 to in their 20s with their career as their main focus, of course they have no children and little interest in family because they are setting everything up so that those things will go better in the future
Are they really saying 'those who respond to a poll saying they either own or intend to own an ipad are more likely to purchase an ipad than 'average''?
the latest poll on facebook states that the average facebook user is :-
compulsive obsessive, narcassistic, friendless, needy and overly concerned with stupid applications and quizzes that have been made up by some gimp with no life and have no bearing on reality.
disclaimer : i may have made this up, but.... its still true

I'm not poor, I could afford one easily, I have a degree and a job requiring a fair degree of brain."iPad owners are an elite bunch. They're wealthy, highly educated and sophisticated. They value power and achievement much more than others. They're also selfish, scoring low on measures of kindness and altruism."
I have no interest in iPads.
The people who like iPads buy into the smug Apple culture, they like the products (for some reason I am yet to fathom). Serious business types have Blackberrys & real laptops, at best it's the more casual business types who go for Apple... how do I know - I take a tube ride everyday and see what tech people have, it's blindingly obvious. I am yet to see a serious business type with an iPad, but I have seen number of self-declared-trendy art/design types with them.
How is buying the latest fad "sophisticated" anyway?
I don't think buying an iPad says everything about your personality, Apple have a huge following they've built up especially in media who buy their products regardless.
I DO think buying an iPad is stupid though, because they're a terrible and pointless product. No 3G calls, no E-Ink screen, average resolution, average battery life, iPhone OS that can only run a limited subset of apps, average CPU, average well everything and it's missing many core features yet priced highly.
I'd rather buy the newly announced kindle for books and perhaps an ICD Gemini tablet, or maybe one of these new hybrid e-ink tablets instead of 2 products. There's many more expected before the end of the year, I'm going to hold out and see what's on offer.
I know some traders who have iPads, they fit this description nicely.
But the thing is, they NEVER would use it for business, the reason they like it is because its unlike the work machines.

If they are so highly educated then why are they so easily sucked into ****ty advertisements for a product which is not new, exciting, innovating or any more satisfying than pulling your eyeballs out through your arsehole, it is something that has nothing more than an ever growing brand awareness (good or bad, news is free communication of the brand) and is frankly something that only an idiot would buy...?iPad owners are an elite bunch. They're wealthy, highly educated and sophisticated. They value power and achievement much more than others. They're also selfish, scoring low on measures of kindness and altruism.
And yes...I have used one...we have them at work.
I know many very well educated people who are incredibly gullible, intelligence isn't some linear thing, having a high IQ does not preclude one to not been a total idiot. That is something I seem to demonstrate all too frequently.

Newsflash:
Luxury item bought mainly by those with lots of disposable income
Yes, I own an iPad, and cost about half the HP touchscreen laptop its replaced....
I bought one today.
I have a PhD *and* a beard.
All bow down to me...
In all seriousness, I really never thought I'd ever go with Apple stuff but I had a play with the iPad on Saturday and I really liked it. It's certainly overpriced but it's going to be a useful gadget in my life because I know it's going to help some very non-techy people get online quite simply.
It's the only bit of Apple kit I own. I may get a Macbook Pro at some point simply because I've fondled them from afar but I don't view myself as selfish or elite.
I'm a pillock who spends too much on tech certainly, but then I would think most of us are skating on thin ice with that one!!
All the big wigs at my work want an iPad just for the image in front of clients -_-
They even got the receptionists in 1 office the biggest screened Macs just to look good even though they were running windows and there's no other macs in the business...they recently got stolen, ha.
All a bit sad really.
