    Re: News - Samsung launches Galaxy Tab in partnership with Vodafone

    We've already seen what a performance boost that GPU brings, remember this is the same hardware that's in a Samsung Galaxy S?

    can't post it as a URL but youtube -> watch?v=CY4eE5jVsCs

    That video's a decent example of the performance boost, the hummingbird beats a snapdragon by about 10-20%. The GPU used in a snapdragon's the SGX 535 (also used in the ipad, Intel GMA 500 and many more) and that gets beaten by the SGX 540 quite badly, 2-3x the performance.

    The contents of the video btw are simply the SGS, a HTC Desire and an Xperia X10 being put through some benchmarks, all running Android 2.1 and the results are interesting.

    My understanding is that Qualcomm designs its own graphics cores in-house: http://channel.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=22510

    Re: News - Samsung launches Galaxy Tab in partnership with Vodafone

    You might actually be right there, sorry, what I've gathered from dotting around phone forums and such is that Qualcomm isn't telling us what's inside the Snapdragon but general consensus is that performance is roughly equal to that of a 535. Checking Wikipedia, that says it's an AMD Z430. What a mess up.

    Either way you can see performance is nifty in comparison and according to Wikipedia again the 535 definitely appears in the iphone 4, ipad, iphone 3GS, Intel GMA 500 and the 540 has on paper twice the performance.

    Wikipedia -> wiki/PowerVR#Series5_.28SGX.29

    This should be beaten by Tegra 2 tablets imo
