I spoke to VM (UK not somewhere-in-darkest-asia because it was a customer services rather than technical support) last October and was told that they wanted £10pm to move L->XL, (got max tv package plus phone in addition to L broadband). Darn stupid because if they'd done it at the prices quoted on the website for new users then I'd have probably given them the extra £60pa and upgraded.

Yep, it's a bugger when folks learn that they're supposed to switch on WPA2 ...

Just done some quick figuring and that works out at about 7MB/s for that 6 hour period - love to know what VM level he was on because VM's XXL service (50Mb/s) works out at about 132GB for an afternoon. If I was VM I would be looking at what this person was doing normally - if he was a heavy user anyway then I guess they might have a point. Remember that VM's infrastructure is (reputedly) already stretched paper-thin in some areas of the country.

It's only £5 more expensive than 10mb, pretty good offer I think. Don't like the usage caps though that's why I'm on 50mb.

You'll be sad to hear that there are also caps on the 50mb package now too

This not a backdoor way to get you to agree to new terms?

Sounds like a really good deal, we currently have two ISP's in our house, the crap known as Sky that Virgin. Soon as the Sky account is up to be renewed, we be cancelling that and upgrading our Virgin account.

But I have to say, am getting really fed up with the speed caps.

More than likely. When I moved they installed the system and then sent a new contract with new terms to sign up to. I ignored it. 6 months in we're still connected and paying the same rate. I now can't access the Virgin customer portal thing, but the bill arrives each month and is paid no problem, so I'm happy as I am.
