Wouldn't surprise me if it did, and always was going to. This constant speculation is a marvellous way for absorbing column inches with apple headlines at the expense of your competitors, especially when you have no new product due imminently.

And if the iPhone 5 does launch with NFC there will be a massive deal made of it, even though other handsets will have had it for 6 months.

I would also expect it to be a system unique to the iPhone/Apple, tills will probably need to run iTunes for it to work

If anyone's going to have a complete system in place to make best use of NFC, it's likely to be Apple! Right now the phone hardware is there, but there's not a lot of use to be had of it, which makes it somewhat redundant being there to begin with!
