What the hell was Sony doing keeping a hold of the CVV2 numbers as well! This is getting worse and worse.

New Update... Nothing really new though.

    Service Restoration Update

Countries: AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ

As you may know, we’ve begun the process of restoring the service through internal testing of the new system. We’re still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.

As you’ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won’t restore the services until we can test the system’s strength in these respects.

When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system. We know many of you are wanting to play games online, chat with your friends and enjoy all of the services PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer, and trust me when I say we’re doing everything we can to make it happen. We will update you with more information as soon as we have it. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience of this network outage.

Apparently as well as getting a PS+ membership for a month they have said PS3 users will get 2 free games out of a choice of 5 and PSP users will get 2 free out of a choice of 4.

No doubt these games will be first party stuff, so wouldnt be surprised if Little Big Planet was one of them.

Would love Portal 2 but that would probably count as two wouldn't it. I have no interest in the ps+ membership but would love a subscription to some credit check agency. I am more worried that someone will try to open bank accounts in my name etc.

Regarding the cvv2, sites like Amazon must also keep this data or else you'd have to supply the code each time you purchase, so it's not unusual for Sony to keep this data.

New update it has been announced that the company that has been tasked with rebuilding PSN is 3D Realms.

I'm hoping that's a joke, but I see no smilies!

TBH I think no site should be allowed to keep that detail, this saving your card for next time is the worst concept going since you open yourself to all sorts of issues if your details are breached.
Good luck on trying to get your bank or card provider to sign off on writing off those off.

Banks policies on online sales and account access are just crap. Banks will back track on them faster than you can say Subprime mortgages.

Red face Re: News - Sony CEO issues official statement on PSN attack

From May 1st playstation network restoration update.

"Complimentary Offering and "Welcome Back" Appreciation Programme"

While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, the company is committed to helping its customers protect their personal data and will provide a complimentary offering to assist users in enrolling in identity theft protection services and/or similar programmes. The implementation will be at a local level and further details will be made available shortly in each region.
From Blog.EU.Playstation.com it looks like this will happen but a slower roll out for Europe.

So it looks like each area will get personal data protection (not just the US), in addition to the entertainment content.
