Re: News - Android users reluctant to pay for apps

I`ve been tempted on a number of occasions to buy htc`s location app but as crossy pointed out i`m one of the people who most of the time maps is fine. I have had a couple of issues lately on motorways where it starts to jump onto a roads but Its been fine other than that and its most likely been caused because I`m using a hacked rom.

Sigh, what is it with people on here.

Apps that are better on iOS than Android (to name a few of many) -

    Twitter
    Facebook
    WhatsApp
    SkyNews
Sky+ and SkyPlayer (that it doesn't even have)
*every single official app made by a big company, Android doesn't have it in most cases, or its worse*

Being as I don't have an iPhone I can't really comment, but the Android Sky+ and Twitter apps seem to be pretty decent to me. I don't use Facebook, nor the other apps.

In what way are these apps better for iOS?

I have plenty of phones that run both.

Nearly every app designed for Android feels like a poor knock off, its a shame really and I wish it wasn't the case, but it is.

The reason for this is Android fragmentation, they should just drop app support for old phones like the HTC Magic and only focus on the Desire onwards for example, like Apple developers dropped support for the original iPhone and 3G in many cases.

I'd be more lovely if people were nice to me, they all seem to be fanboys or just generally aggressive.

The Android business model is VERY different to the iOS model. Both have their pros and cons, but "feels like a poor knock off" sounds to me like fanboi talk rather than providing any *actual* reasoning behind your comments.

As one of the few apps that you mentioned can you tell me exactly why the Android Twitter app is inferior to the iOS Twitter app?

I'm not trying to sour your welcome (after all, opinions are something that everyone is entitled to), but if you can explain your reasoning then perhaps it'll help stop people getting their backs up.

Also - I'd be intrigued to hear which camp (generally aggressive or fanboy) you have me in.

Re: News - Android users reluctant to pay for apps

The iOS Twitter app is just better designed, the Android one has been improved recently but it only feels like it is half way there. Go into a mobile shop and try the Twitter app for iPhone and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'm certainly not a fanboy of any kind, but I will happily be critical of either platform where necessary.

I don't have you in any 'camp' really

Re: News - Android users reluctant to pay for apps

Not all android apps are worse quality.

Example 1: Maybe it's just me, but I've yet to find a good equivalent iOS app for Newsrob (which is my most used android app after browser, email and sms apps). I've looked at bylines, but it is crap in comparison.

Example 2: I haven't tried any 3rd party internet browsers on iOS but I would guess that they are worse than what is available on android.

I don't use facebook and a scrolling widget is perfect for my twitter needs (read only, not following many).

Re: News - Android users reluctant to pay for apps

I tend to use friend stream for twitter and Facebook so havent had much experience of the official apps but then again With the friendstream widget i have no need for them either.

THis is something that IOS cant compete on as Widgets are just awesome(I am an android fanboi )

Widgets are nice but often they are buggy and don't update properly.

    Oh dear...

If iOS had widgets that'd be great, the ones (that work ) on Android are really useful but even the ones I use only really save 1 extra tap, but I'm lazy.
