The screen on the air? you can pratically see the pixels from one meter away, the screen on the mbp is better, but nothing compared to some of the sony, down side is the sony ones do tend to cost more for the portability and power of the air, they have nothing that directly competes, only a lot higher end.

I thought the DPI was higher on the Airs than the MBP's?, Then again you have been spoilt by that awesome Sony laptop.

Not to mention Apples seem to hold their values far better than an equivalent PC model.

Much better - someone at work might buy this mac air off me so i can afford to upgrade for only £100..show me a Non apple laptop where that happens

My mac pro is also worth £1400 at the moment, and I paid £1500 for it nearly 4 years ago..its truly insane but people go mad for them, especially when its near a product refresh.

Agree on Apple products holding their value here, my missus Mini sold for £20 more than she got it for nearly 2 years later...

I would say ToughBooks hold their value well but are very expensive. Anyway, your laptop is around 6 months old and most people are probably not fully aware ATM of the improvements and reinstated features the new model has when compared to the old one. It happens with loads of things TBH.

    Edit!!

Looking at this article the late 2010 MacBook Air 11.6" with the 1.6GHZ CPU upgrade,4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD was £1160 at launch in late November:

It maybe down to the fact that the Mac Pro has risen in price. You are looking at over £2000 for a base model which is around the same speed in multi-threaded applications and has less RAM than your current computer. For a model with a faster CPU and more RAM you are looking at around £2500. AFAIK,£1500 4 years ago is closer to £1600 to £1700 nowadays and the one with two fitted CPUs was a higher end model IIRC.

OTH,one of the higher Sandy Bridge iMacs probably is faster in most cases for not much more.

Whats the best way to gauge the value of a old Macbook? I have a 13" Unibody Macbook (Non pro) late 2008 I think and curios to see what its worth.

Look on Ebay. You probably could end up with a decent price for it.

As CAT says, check ebay. Then if it is worth more than £300 proceed to sell it elsewhere..since ebay will charge you a crazy amount of money, and its risky for any high value items.

At a guess I would say it's worth at least £500, probably a bit more..but even though I wouldn't sell it on ebay myself, its still the best place for a value check.

The Samsung Series 9 seems to fit the specifications you want but has a slightly lower specification than the new MacBook Air:

IMHO,the MacBook Air looks better value as both laptops are the same price in the US.
Yeah that looks nice, tidy little system but I'm really disappointed to see a Core i3, it's not very good value for money (the screen might be better than the Air?), and I don't know about the SSD, is it mSATA or 2.5", hmm thats the other problem I've just thought of, I'd rather have a 2.5" bay and transplant my Intel 320 in. Unless it's a surprisingly good integrated SSD anyway...

Have to see how the UX21 turns out!

According to this article the UX21 will be around 80% to 90% of the price of a MacBook Air:

That kind of price will make sense if it has a great screen, good SSD and an i5 or i7 rather than the Samsung's i3, and good battery life despite the small chassis, say 7-8hrs web browsing. As in properly premium features to justify the price, the Air mostly has it just isn't compatible with my way of doing things, the Samsung fails on the CPU IMHO.

Meh, I should probably save the money and start a pension anyway!

Anyone got any idea what an old iBook G4 1GHz with bluetooth, 640MB RAM, leopard and an airport card is worth?

if I did it would still have a mac keyboard which isn't quite the same layout as Windows laptops. ideally I'd want an Air with black aluminium, Windows keyboard and booting Windows 7, with no OS-X at all. Not going to pay the required top dollar if its not spot on. What I like is the hardware spec and lightweight, the form factor is good.
