Maybe this'd be a good opportunity for those Android manufacturers who are hacked off with the Google+Motorola deal?

Desktops and laptops I can see being shunted off, but the server line? That's pretty unlikely imho. Remember that IBM did something similar - Leonovo got the consumer gear but the xSeries stayed with Big Blue. This could be a good thing - maybe give HP enough revenue to move the Integrity's off of Itanium and get HP/UX ported to x86.
They are going to be still making servers and WebOS maybe used on devices other than smartphones and tablets:

However,it would be nice if they would clarify if they are continuing to make and support monitors, printers and scanners for consumers. AFAIK,they have said nothing about these sides of their business. This could mean they hopefully will be fine for the time being.

Well no... but they appear to only be dropping the *consumer* hardware business, B2B is staying - servers are HPs bread & butter, they won't be dropping those, they are the market leaders in commodity x86 hardware (by units shipped) and if they're prices are anything to go by (in comparison to Dell anyway) they are not making the industry's worst margins either.

Saying that though IBM shift fewer server units but make as much revenue as HP out of it. Dell, Oracle and Fujitsu are way behind the big 2 in revenue.

According to the press release they (or should that be "we"?) said IPG - the bit that does the printers - is safe. So yes, you should be able to get printers and scanners for a good while yet. Monitors - on the other hand - I thought were part of PSG, so that'll be sold off. Shame because I use a LA1905wg for work and it's proven to be quite a nice cheap little unit.

Got to say that if Leo decides to hive off IPG as well then he's clearly mad as a dingo with sunstroke. Not that I think getting rid of PSG is particularly sane ...

It just sounds like another HP CEO going on a power trip and trying to leave their "mark" TBH. What an idiotic decision to announce you "maybe" selling parts of your consumer business without actually finding a buyer. It also means HP stock will also goung down in price.

27% fall in share price ... I think it's safe to assume that Mr A has "left his mark" - unfortunately not the one I think he was aiming for.

I'm just glad that I'm not a shareholder.
