I've not run a WEI on W8. Not sure where it is ?
The drive itself is an old 7200rpm Hitachi, so it would be low for the HDD, The SSD is very high 7.7 from memory.

Re: News - Windows 8 to deliver faster boot times

Is it set to have the hibernation file on the SSD? (Probably a yes, assuming it is, and it has enough sustained read/write for 4GB!)

Sounds like something odd is going on, its ment to discard superfetch data from RAM for the suspend to make it faster iirc.

I would hazard a guess its the classic case of a malfunctioning device driver, which is painfully hard to track down.

Do you go in and out of sleep (S3) properly?

Re: News - Windows 8 to deliver faster boot times

I have set the box to never sleep or hibernate as W7 would never wake from sleep or hibernation. Poss due to OC on CPU ?

    Hmmmmm.

Bet if you quickly set it to allow S3 take off the overclock on CPU and GPU (if any) it still won't sleep.

I think MS either need to make WHQL much tougher, or try and get more jailing/stats around device drivers. The latter will take another 'vista grade' shock to the users sadly

Re: News - Windows 8 to deliver faster boot times

I think you're right. I have upgraded because the family think I "work in IT" (I don't) and therefore can support their various systems. I thought I had better start to learn W8 as all of their new laptops etc will be W8 going forward.

It's new to me, but easier to learn than OSX, I just have to find where they've hidden everything. Is there a WEI in W8 ?

Re: News - Windows 8 to deliver faster boot times

Yeah so its not a case of the hibernation file taking ages to write. It might be easier to look at the standby/resume problem and work from there, as it might well be the same driver thats messing that up. If you enable all that stuff in the BIOS, try to resume from sleep and it fails, what do you get in the event viewer?
