Early days yet, and rumour only, but I agree, based on the above, reasons (for me) to upgrade = none.

It can generate revenue from people playing games...

Still if it has dedicated hardware for individual functions such as AI ect then it could be faster than a PC in games even with slower hardware as most of the hardware in a PC is general purpose.
My one wish for the Xbox 720, native keyboard / mouse support.

Just like most releases from Sony and Microsoft......the new consoles will generally be faster then the main-stream PC on release but fall behind over time.
I wonder how much they will lose per unit on release this time around?

If its Arm based though I wonder how they will get the performance for 1080p gaming (I would be shocked if its 720p upscale like the current gen)

The Xbox doesn't. Optional services, i.e. XBox Live do (or can), but the basic console doesn't. I've had one for several years and it's never generated a penny from me as I don't use Live.

2 ways I expect...
1. It will use a more advanced ARM chip then is currently available
2. Hopefully, it will off-load a lot more to the GPU then current generation does
Number 2 would be very good news for PC gamers.

Graphics like avatar, individual character AI - I believe all this sort of hype when I see it. We've been promised similar things with every other console in the past and its never been delivered. Personally I think it'll just be a boosted 360 (i.e. new GPU, more cores/ram etc) with metro UI. Why reinvent the wheel - It didn't help the PS3 much did it - The cell was supposed to do everything but in the end its not been that much more impressive than the 360?

Well, they got a slice of every purchase you made.....unless you bought all your games second hand!
Plus....the peripherals....the pricey peripherals!!

But you buy/rent the games that you play right? That's more than most people on the PC do.

Well, optional peripherals (or peripheral, actually, in the singular, being one extra controller) is an exchange, money for controller. And that's only because I wanted an extra controller, not because I bought the console. If I had that decision over again, I wouldn't buy it. I think it's been used once.
As for games, PCs generate extra revenue for MS too, if you buy MS games. And I have, over the years, most obviously, several versions of Flight Sim, though there are a few others too. But again, it's an exchange, cash for game. It's not the console itself generating that, as it arguably is if you pay a subscription to use services for he console, though there, I guess you exchange money for access.
