    Be that as it may, they have provided a hardware target for other companies to beat - which they frequently have - and in doing so have helped drive development forward. I somehow doubt we'd have 720p phones by now, or plans for 2560x1600 tablets, if it weren't for Apple paving the initial steps and making a device that is relevant to one-up. Screen res isn't the only thing.

    As much as I dislike their business practises, only a muppet would deny that their presence has accelerated the bringing of new and improved products to market.

    The showdown will be in the courts, as Samsung and Apple continue their trench war of legal attrition, attempting to block sales of their rival's product in various territories. Let's not kid ourselves that consumers will benefit.
