I'm waiting for Intel to join the price war properly. Performance might not be market leading, but failure rates are around 0.3%, not 3%

OCZ may seem to have high failure rates (been through a few myself), but they also probably sell more than anyone else.
That said, I'm sticking to Crucial M4s at the moment.

probably a 250/256GB'er tomorrow from scan as im passing them on way back from Manchester. 830's and M4's have been around £150 the last few days, so if they managed to do that as a today only or something that would be nice.

There are some great prices on SSD's at the moment. There seem to be even more deals on them!

Re: News - SSD price war in full swing

I was lucky enough to win a Mushkin 64gb SSD a few months ago,and the difference as people have stated is well you need to try one yourself. The shutdown time is great as well 5 - 7 Secs.

Right, so. Would an SATAIII drive work on an SATAII motherboard, just at SATAII speeds, or do you need a motherboard with SATAIII?

Ah, good. Although I do fancy a new M/B. It would mean I would have to get a new CPU...

Re: News - SSD price war in full swing

Been running a 120GB Vertex 2 for a while now and as others have said, I wouldn't ever go back to a spinning platter for my OS drive. It's the single most noticeable upgrade I've ever had, just about everything is faster and smoother. The sooner the sound of a HDD chugging is as rare as the sound of a dial up modem, the better.

Thinking about upping to a 256GB then I can stick the 120 in my laptop. \m/

Re: News - SSD price war in full swing

So tempting for my laptop. The spinning HD is soo slow and I wouldn't need a big capacity!

Just one thing, I created a backup image which laptops ask you these days (oem don't send you discs) when I first booted up with it. If I were to get an SSD, stick it in, can I just restore that image onto it and windows 7 will know it's an ssd and do the configuration?

Probably not but there is methods of cloning which could work. You can also download copies of windows 7 for free off microsoft and use the key which is probably stuck onto the the laptop somewhere.

Yeah those discs sometimes check if the HDD is a certain size/model. Here are some links to fee W7 images

I bought my M4 about 3-4 weeks ago and paid £185 so it's nice to see them coming down in price...........
