From the most up-to-date information, it looks like the answer to the upgrade question is both 'yes' and 'no'. They tried running Apollo on existing handsets, but performance wasn't up to scratch. The Windows 8 core is designed with multi-core processors and a minimum of 1GB RAM in mind. As a result they have been/are working on a rebuild of Apollo, code-named 'Apollo Lite', based on Windows Embedded Compact. The plan is to bring as much of the new OS as possible over to this build, with features only absent where hardware support isn't available or performance isn't up to scratch. This version of the OS is likely to be called Windows Phone 7.6 or 7.7, rather than 8.
If the above is true then I expect most will be quite happy. It's certainly a good sign if Microsoft are this serious about how new updates affect performance; Apple seem to just roll them out regardless.
It is very nice os. But ill believe these numbers when i see it. If they are going to make this happen they will need to own the low and mid range phone market. Going heads to head with android and ios is a mistake. They are highend super phones take over the free and $99 phones and the will be number one soon.
"Nokia’s strength in emerging markets". I strongly predict the Windows Phones' popularity will be in countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.
Nokia have been churning out crap for years.
The last decent phone they made was the 6230, that phone was awesome at the time. It's nice to see them turn around with the new MS phones, it's always good to have alternatives.
Currently, I'm using Android and I can't see myself switching. Love the whole 'google' thang
