So true. Then again I'm very unimpressed with the whole "Chromebook" idea - I'd have much preferred that they slapped a copy of Android on it (complete with Play Store) and called it a "DroidBook" (or similar). At least then you'd be able to do things without an active Internet connection.

If you can stretch your budget a bit more then you can certainly get an Asus Transformer TF300 for that price. Failing that, there's still stocks of the old TF101 Transformer available for less than your £329. I've got the latter and it's capable of doing a lot more than the Chromebook.

I saw these in Currys/ Comet/ one or the other at the weekend when looking for a replacement laptop for my wife.

I went over and had a look and was actually impressed. I didn't spend long with it at all, but the looks drew me over (I have a Macbook Pro, and I thought these looked good). I didn't know what it was at all to start: I'm behind the loop on Windows 8, and I thought "Is this 8?" then read the blurb.

Toyed with idea of getting one and putting Windows on it, but have no idea of the specs and whether that would work.

I certainly do want one. This could be absolutely perfect for university lectures. And MILES cheaper than anything running Windows or OSX
    Current specs:
    CPU: Intel i5 3570k Overclocked @ 4.6Ghz GPU: MSI Twin Frozr 7850 @ 1000Mhz Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 RAM: 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz

Why are they so expensive compared to cheap android tablets - as its really only a tablet with keyboard... ?

ARM tablets can be sold at under £50 these days
I'm surprised an ARM netbook (i.e. tablet + keyboard) for under £99 hasn't taken over the market.
