I believe Chris Wild is looking at continuing with Mikes work.
DR (not Mr Ross!) definitely added more of a diplomatic element to the original game.I feel like I'm the only person alive who thought Doomdark's Revenge was better than LoM...

Yep I read that last night after I searched on Mike. Cheers.
Freelancer was a pretty good Elite'ish experience as well
There are some nice add-ons for Oolite as well. Everything from shaders for space stations and ships to x-wings and tie fighters. I chose to stick as close to the original as possible, but did add a hud add-on that turned my target cross a different colour when aimed at a ship.

Pledged my £20 the moment I saw this on the Beeb yesterday morning. Frontier took up such a large portion of my teenage life. Can easily see a new Elite doing similar.
For anyone looking for a nice little filler whilst this is in development, you do a lot worse than Pioneer - which is heavily based on Frontier, written from scratch.
Pioneer Space Sim
bin waiting for this news for years...am a very happy chappy today :-) pledged me £20 and can.t wait for it to be released
Yeah, great news (I`ve pledged £50}, just wonder why it`s taken nearly 30 years though.
There's two very good signs in this Kickstarter:
1) David Braben has publicly acknowledged that his control system in Frontier was massively borked and detracted from the game. We're going back to something less physically realistic but more playable. Good stuff
2) He had the good grace to give a call out to Ian Bell in the opening paragraph.
I'm pretty sure Frontier Studios owns all the trademarks relative to the original Elite nowadays, but it'd still be fascinating to know what Ian Bell thinks of this...
Not sure when this is from, but an interview with Ian Bell that speaks about Elite (think I got the link from RPS)

I will probably buy this when/if it exists, but the kickstarter pitch is lazy and vague. I'll believe it when I see it.

All from Ian's point of view at least.
I first played Elite on the BBC B, but really got into it play on the Atari ST.
I tried play Frontiers but it was ghastly. I tried Oolite but never really gelled with it, but with the news it got me itching to play again. Downloaded Steem and boot it up last night. Already Poor.
First Chris Roberts announces Star Citizen, then David Braben announces this. Y U NO DO THIS 10 YEARS AGO??
