Re: Features - QOTW: What's the best CPU you've ever bought?

For me my current CPU, the i7 920 has been my longest serving, however, I had an i7 970 whcih could easily do 4,5 Ghz with all 12 threads. Simply awesome folding power in there.

Favourite chip from yesteryear was the one that got me into overclocking - an AMD X2 4200. I can't remember how far I got it now, but that was the longest serving desktop chip that I'd had for years at that point... and has only been superceded by the 920 in my current rig.

Wish I'd never sold that 970....

Re: Features - QOTW: What's the best CPU you've ever bought?

I will have to say my Q9550 which has only recently made way for a 3570k.

The performance was great and it held its value so well.

In second would be my e4300, overclocked to 3.24ghz from 1.8ghz and was cheap to start with.

Core i7 920 ,the best CPU who make big deference ,i know i7 3960x is the best, but for the time i7 920 was the CPU who crush all CPU with great performance for that time. That is like 8800GTX,a big Performance boost for that time.and Core 2 duo E 8500 was great to.

    To be a little predictable:

    1. Celeron 300A o/c to 450Mhz - The best value for money & offered the most noticable overclock
    2. Core 2 Quad 6600 - The CPU which has lasted the longest without feeling out of date

Re: Features - QOTW: What's the best CPU you've ever bought?

I would like to say 68000 but that came as a non upgradable part of things like the Atari ST so might not count. In a world of 8086, Z80 and 6502 computers it was such an unbelievable bit of kit though.

In terms of PC bits, it would probably be the Athlon x2 5000 I bought a while back. Cost peanuts, unlocked to 3 core Phenom II and still going strong

Intel Core i7 920 for me too.

Still running it, still offers tons of performance, and I think it has had one of the best price/performance ratio's of recent years.

Re: Features - QOTW: What's the best CPU you've ever bought?

I think it was my AMD XP 3200+ (Barton core) as this was the first time I had put the most powerful CPU my mobo could handle in the board, up until then the best I had ever used was somewhere between entry level and mid range. But my current CPU in my first even Intel build is a close second place I think.

AMD FX-53 clocked to FX-55 speed, cost me over £500 from Scan around 2004 - lasted me a good 3+ years!

E6600 - Intel Conroe - massive jump in performance, AMD been playing catch up ever since!
