Re: News - Analyst expects March reveal for PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720

Wii U is an embarrassment for a console released in 2012. I mean it's about on par with current gen consoles performance wise and the cross platform games actually perform and sometimes look worse than the 360 and PS3 versions, zombie u looks like crap and that's an exclusive to the u, that's poor.

I'm sure the PS4 will bring that true next gen quality to the console market.

no way next gen consoles can play games native 4k resolution as no current gen single gpus can handle this resolution at a reasonable frame rate.

all these consoles will be able to do is play 4k contents, such as movies & pictures.

Re: News - Analyst expects March reveal for PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720

    I already have a PS4, my HTPC has a 3870k in it!

With that it is well known consoles get so much out of the lessor hardware than PC, to think the 360 is basically an ati x1800 but one of those in a pc and you won't get 360 standard graphics.

So if they are based on pumped up amd apus they could be pretty potent, with that I will probably stick with my PC.

I hope the PS3 drops in price quick when the PS4 comes out - would love to get one cheap for a couple of exclusive games I'd like to play.

Being “largely built from ‘off the shelf’ high-end PC components” for $400 or so!

    I think not!!

Don't forget, massive volume discount, plus it won't be high bin components as console parts will be clocked lower than the pc parts so some of the parts that might've otherwise failed and been binned (bad pun I know) will be put to use as console parts instead.

I still don't understand why people use the argument that "controllers are better, therefore I need a console", when you can plug pretty much any controller you want in a computer... Regardless, I am looking forward to them finally releasing new consoles, but I just hope they don't throw in last gen hardware. I don't want consoles to continue to hold back games.

Re: News - Analyst expects March reveal for PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720

I don't understand why it's an 'either/or' situation. I have a PC, which I use for FPS, etc, and I have a console for platform/driving, etc games. As long as the next gen are a big leap from the current gen, I will probably get one, but it won't be in place of my PC, it'll be a complement to it.

I'm with you on that one. Although in my case I tend to get titles on XBox first (because I'm usually too impatient to wait for the PC to boot and run through all the various checks and starts that are needed before I can start Origin/Steam) and then if they're great titles wait until Steam does a special deal. I'm currently playing through Just Cause 2 and AC:Revelations

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

I hear what you are saying and you make some good points. But even so... the tech spec for these devices must surely have been fixed quite a while ago (year+ ?) so by the time they come out, they wont be what most would consider "high-end PC components" surely? Though like a lot of people, I await reviews before jumping to too many conclusions. Not knocking consoles at all (though I did stop at the PS2 myself). TBC as they say.

Re: News - Analyst expects March reveal for PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720

Personally I find a mouse and keyboard better for FPS and Strategy (C&C). Probably because I grew up with a PC and the likes of Quake 2, Unreal etc. Thats not to say I can't play Halo or Modern Warfare, but I find I'm not as good. Although getting older might have something to do with it!

However March looks like it shaping up to be an interesting month. Maybe an expensive one ... Hmm does my car need a service?

Get a Logitech K400. I use one for my media PC and it's awesome.

I am not so sure about this. for now I will stick to high end computer gaming. however this cannot be a race between console and computer because computer has a wide range of content which is ever expanding unlike the console which has a very limited amount of features.

    But this is my opinion

Yes indeed! Would be ok for the right money as a casual toy for GT5.

Re: News - Analyst expects March reveal for PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720

Being a console gamer since my PC died 4 years ago, FPS's aren't too bad with a keypad. Not as smooth or responsive as a mouse / keyboard combo but definitely playable with experience.

That said, I am getting bored of consoles being too samey so am now building a mini-itx gaming rig and will put off the next gen consoles until they lose their newness and the price drops by 50% at least.

Got to love them though, developers certainly know how to get the very best from old hardware!
