So the choice is Apple sheep, and buy into the 'I' world, Android lamb to the slaughter, prostituting yourself to the Google data gathering machine, Microsoft mutton, a bit fatty and bloated and not very appetising (unless you can find a start button) or a helping of Blackberry jam.
Isn't competition healthy

I find it interesting that they had the screens of the phones showing lots of random colours and none of the boring and now stale "grid of icons" which plastered the marketing in the past - probably sign of them trying to make it look new and different like android and windows phone
Not going to agree with you on any of the above, but everyone's entitled to their opinion... (and I don't want banned from Hexus!)
So what's your "choice steak" alternative to sheep, lamb or mutton? The magic mushroom casserole that is FirefoxOS, or the lentil-and-nut-loaf that's Ubuntu-Phone-Edition? Please don't say that you're a Symbian jerky addict.
All this food - must eat
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
They had a TV advert around that :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onLYKU-CNhM
At the end: "If you don't have an iPhone, you don't have an iPhone". Yeah, no crap
Of course it's subjective, I thought that was implied with my first line. I said "Things that I prefer" not "Things that are better". That preference is obviously linked to how good the apps are for *me*.
The best(*) Android equivalent of my most used app has not been updated about 2 years. So I am not going to hold my breath for an update. [*Rating of 4.7, frequently recommended in relevant forums]
It could use it too, as the features (useful, not bloat), on the iOS equivalent is so far ahead that there is little room for dispute. Along with a better Japanese keyboard, it's a deal maker for having iOS device.
While software/interface limitations leaves more hope than hardware limitations (there is no reason why an equal or superior app can be done on the Android) it does not mean that anything will be done.
But when I buy a phone, I want as much to work with as little effort/waiting as possible. The reason I went S3 this round, was mainly because the iPhone 5 lacked Google Maps on release. A software issue.
While I do not want to encourage poor finish and defend the scratches out of the box, to me, it's no deal breaker for me (I keep my phones so long they are almost worthless by the time I retire them).
have you contacted the app writer and chatted to them? are they registered on XDA? have a look and talk about features you would like to see added
This is a keeper
If there is an argument for Apple it's this: developers make more money. That translates into better apps (sometimes).
That's why Linux sucks, it still hasn't found a way to get paid, professional (expensive) apps and games on it. Until it does, it remains a second tier OS.
I think that you are being rather obtuse in saying that "linux sucks".
Would you like to know why linux has not got any developer support? I would say because of these:
Desktop OS Market Feb 2013, from the bastion of knowledge wikipedia.
Windows 7 - 44.55%
Windows Xp 38.99%
OSX - 7.15%
Windows Vista - 5.17%
Windows 8 - 2.79%
Other - 2.11%
Linux - 1.21%
Why on earth would you develop a professional application which you aspire to profit from for a series of OS that only have 1.21% market share, when Windows is totally dominant and has pretty much all of the users? Aside from that I am also pretty sure that there are paid applications for Linux available via the software centre, but nothing you would call "professional" admittedly.
About the lack of games - Steam for Linux. Sorted (kindof).
Really wish that Linux would get far more manufacturer support, as that does mar the experience somewhat, especially when one installs Ubuntu to find out that the bluetooth module isn't functioning
