Considering you are a grammar ninja, I'd expect you to spot the present tense.
I will say AMD has got better since they have stopped monthly updates, it did feel a bit rushed for the point of it.
Prefer nVidia driver, but AMD has the nicer control panel.
Life is like a hair on a toilet seat. Sooner or later you're bound to get pissed off!
I reckon NVIDIA (when did they stop being nVidia?) make the best drivers for NVIDIA cards, and AMD make the best drivers for AMD cards.

NVIDIA, has been this way for a very long time and continues to be this way.
Nvidia, always thought they did better drivers. AMD/ATI though have in recent years been catching up!
AMD makes terrible Linux drivers
I haven't had many issues with either, but here are my biggest problems historically with each:
nVidia - Screen tearing horizontal line in 2D or 3D (but not for the past couple of years now)
AMD/ATI - You'd have to set overscan (when connected to a TV via HDMI) every time you start Windows even though it does remember the 0% setting, but you'd have to nudge the slider down and up to make it take effect. Also, CCC control panel would sometimes get corrupt and never open again, requiring re-installation of Windows, seriously.
Yeah, but that's not even a debate
As for this debate, I'm not sure I could reasonably say which performs better, but simply in terms of the ui and usability, ATI always seemed to make a heck of a lot more sense. And when I updated nVidia a while back, it decided to add a new user on my computer solely for the purpose of updating itself. You know what, nVidia? That's not cool.
Always had problems with flaky drivers and software on AMD, whereas everything has been flawless with the Nvidia cards I've had.
It's been like nvidia are pro's, and AMD are amateurs. Just my experience though.
Not even going there with this one, Can of worms !
