Well you need the SD slot on the S4 as over 8GB of the storage is taken up by the OS

Not on the 'Google Edition' S4.

Yup to both, but that's why I chose the S3 at the time...I like the microsd card (I have 8+ gig of music on there and use it as my mp3 player in the car too) and removeable battery (I have a dock and quite often charge both batteries). CHoices of course, and some people may choose differently
