Personally I think a hardware enthusiast is someone that is enthusiastic about changes in achitecture, performance and design of hardware regardless of it's age or whether they own it or not.
Also, I am an avid PC game simply because the PC can offer more versatility with online play and mods. The graphics are indeed fantastic compared to consoles but I'd rather enjoy playing than enjoy watching. Win win if a game can achieve both those things though!
Consoles have always had more support since the casual gaming market is alot bigger than the core gaming market, and consoles are just more accessible for it. Add on to that the fact a console has a long hardware shelf life which makes it easier to create games engines for, allowing the developers to get the very best from the hardware.
Sadly, the PC gaming market just isnt as strong and can't compete. However I do believe with the new consoles being on the same architecture as each other and on a level with mid-range PC's.. we should see the PC game market increase massively as gamers can use the same machine for years, only upgrading when desireable rather than by requirement.
I think nvidia run a risk of having their next gen hardware overlooked now all consoles are PC based and OpenCL develops. I hope nvidia have a rethink about getting behind OpenCL and don't get left behind.
ooh.. the old PC vs Console battle bought out and dusted off again
I think nVidia have been clever in many ways in recent years. No one can get everything right, but they've hit a lot of high's and not fallen over too many times.
Do I have an nVidia card? I've got one as a spare... my two main cards are AMD.. but that's more luck on what I could get at the time, than direct choice. But other PC's I've built/modded/upgraded have their fair share of nvidia.
Consoles need PC's and PC's need consoles...
because without both pushing, we'd not have gone so far and so fast.
Look at the moment people realised that a PS3 could run FOLDING@HOME like an olympian god!! That putt he cat amongst the pigeons. OK, doesn't help gaming but it DOES help focus the graphics card makers minds on GPU power for stuff.
Loads of people had/have older Geforce card to run Phys X.
My Dad uses CUDA for film rendering.. it's fast.
If the PC as a gaming machine was to have died when people were getting angry with it for not being stable... when consoles were rock solid... then the world would be an empty shell. Then X-box rings lit up, and PS3's fell over.. and PC's got solid on many games. Win7 helped .. but the principle is that they bounced off each others wins and losses.
I have a PS3.. it is used 4 times per year for a quiick blast on Gran Turismo.. other than that.. it's a Media player for a projector.
I have 5 PC's... 3 are gaming grade. 2 get used for it.
I have a PS2.. it's STILL used for gaming.
I have a Wii... it gets used a bit for gaming but mainly for iPlayer.
GO figure..... they all need each other and we all need then to keep fighting![]()

But the best thing about is a new console gen is that the ports will look a fair bit better and there is loads of new games
Well half of those titles are going to be released on the Wii U too! I bet the graphics will be pretty much the same. Wii U is already available and doesn't cost half a thousand pound.
Your £500 TV pass-through fantasy baseball box will have to do better, m$!
Prepare for your rig,.. next gen is coming..
