Actually when they first came out you needed to buy airtime as well, for example a Vodafone £15 voucher would give you 30days 'airtime' (access to the network) and £5 credit...aaah the memories!

'3' coverage is pants where I live otherwise I might consider it, currently on the £10 giffgaff but don't think I use all my mins/etc

That's there going rate for payg mobile broadband (or at least it used to be!) many contracts are probably worse!
If you want your eyes to water just look at the roaming data charges! They've just been capped at £390/GB down from £600

Still too expensive by several levels of magnitude.

Roaming charges need to die, period. Your package should apply across the EU, otherwise what's the point of the EU? It'd be a change if something good came from it.

For low users surely ovivo is the one to go with.

15 quid for a SIM which gives you free minutes texts and data every month even if you never top up again. last time I looked it was 150 minutes 150 texts and 500MB free every month.

Re: News - European mobile roaming costs drop today

I've had an e-mail from Vodafone, where I can access my uk minutes & data package while abroad for 'just' £5 a day! Almost as if they weren't being forced to do it... So for a 7-day holiday, I would pay £35. Which is the same as my monthly charge. How is that an improvement? I remember the days of Vodafone passport, where you paid a 75p connection, then used your minutes.
Or in 2000, I discovered that texts from Australia were counted in my quota, so I didn't come home to a huge bill. They soon cottoned on though...

Tempted to try out the 321 thing. I barely call anybody, most of my data usage is done whilst attached to a wireless network and, according to GiffGaff, I sent just 220 texts in the last month.

Want to try 3 as the data connection on GiffGaff (O2) can sometimes be a right pain in the backside.

And with £12.50 cashback through Quidco on a PAYG sim, almost risk free.
