There is a huge difference. Apple act as if they invent it. Everything is revolutionary. Every single little aspect is horrifically oversold.

As a result when it comes to using it, it is not as good as described, not by a long shot. Often it is clearly worse than the competitors just without as good marketing.

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

We will obviously be getting full details tonight - but odds are I will pick one up. My personal phone is an iPhone 4, and it's ageing now, really needs replacing, and co-incidentally my contract is up for renewal tomorrow.

In the complete absence of any other exciting/interesting phones on the market I don't really have a choice if I want to replace my IP4 with something newer and 4G ready. That is assuming of course that the 5S will still support 4G on EE's spectrum...

12 Month contract this time though, I am still hoping that someone/something will come in and shake up the mobile market within the next 12 months or so!

I'm willing to bet that there will be nothing special. Apple's best fight is on the software side and their cards have been shown since the WWDC earlier this year.

I sometimes find their overblown marketing funny. The best example I remember was going into a university lecture hall with a bloke wearing a 'Think Different' shirt and pretty much the exact same Macbook as at least 50 other students.

So please do carry on Thinking Differently Apple, just make sure your customers don't.

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

Watching the event via text updates on Ars, no live stream Apple? Too much data to handle I imagine!

So....the 5C is slightly 'better' than the 5 which is being discontinued (?!)

    A6, 4" screen, bigger battery..

16GB from $99 with contract, I'm not sure on pricing of the 5 in the US, I think the 5 is $199 ?

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

    iPhone 5S announced in Gold/Silver/Black
    A7 SoC - 64bit / 102mm die

They've not mentioned it yet but you can clearly see the metal ring around the home button so is fingerprint reader pretty much confirmed (?)

EDIT: Yup, confirmed. Suprising, this is a bigger 'feature' than they've had for a while, I thought they'd have saved it for the 6 rather than a line refresh of the 5.

The A7 seems to be the first 64 bit ARM based SOC:

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

So it has a faster (upto 50%), more efficient SoC, giving slightly better/same battery life as the iPhone 5....why not let me downclock it to give me a better standby? This isn't just aimed at Apple, it'd be a great feature (IMO)

The 5 is gone, dead, pushing up the daisys...the iPhone 4S is still the low-end device :/

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

So that's the iPhone bits...nothing new there that had not already leaked, and nothing exciting

5C looks as we expected - if anything more powerful but still has that horrible plastic factor. Sure it will sell very well though at around £80 less than the 5S
5S again as expected - nice to know that the A7x is 64bit arm SOC but that's just a cool technical thing, not really a benefit on an iPhone.

Still..no major boo boos on the 5S either so I can safely place my upgrade order with EE

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

For the 5S? I'm sure a few people will try to pickup a cheap 5 now before they go. I'd be concerned with how easily they scratch like the 5 did. Seems the same process and I've not seen anything to suggest they've dealt with that issue? For me a plastic/polymer/whatever body phone is more appealing for practical reasons than aluminium.

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

Almost wanted to eat my desk when they said 'other makers' were just cramming pixels and they were doing it different with larger pixels. They are basically copying HTC's direction on that and some of the features like action shot were done by HTC and Samsung already.
Also saw that the 5C will cost 549USD off contract. I thought Apple were going to try and attack the lower end of the market with the 5C. Guess not. Not even the normal 5, they killed that off in favour of the 4S.

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

    Yeah for a 5S.

I have a strong dislike for plastic phones that cost more than £100 - to me its a sign of cheapness..I love the design of the 4/4S as the glass/metal hybrid nature gives a real feeling of quality/VFM

It's a good point about the paint, I do have a 5 as my work phone already and it's worn through everywhere on the edges after just 10 months - may be worth waiting a few weeks for initial reports to appear before ordering (or we'll have another "Scratchgate" )

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

I'd wait if it were me, I know of one guy who's 5 was scratched when he took it out of the box, he had to get it replaced and wait a week then it ended up getting roughed up anyway after a couple of months.

As for the 5C, Apple will be laughing all the way to the bank, a cheaper to produce iPhone 5 clone selling for the same price the 5 should have logically dropped to anyway.
