How? nVidia's cards aren't suddenly going to become worse. Chips like the 770, 680 etc. are still beating AMD for the equivalent die size so they have room to lower costs to compete should AMD put out something faster.

AMD should grab a little market share, if everything goes well, but that's hardly going to murder nVidia.

Thing is though, AMD is taking advanced and new technology first, making AMDs cards better and absolutely removing competition from the enthusiast gaming sector. Then Nvidia takes the same technology and makes it slightly better, though Nvidia is notorious for rebranding products e.g. GTS 450 into GTX 550 ti and GTX 680 to GTX 770. Why not improve on it and not take the same silicon from a better card to make it look better?

For starters, that's not how it works (think lead times), but even if it was, you've got the two mixed up. Much as I dislike nVidia, they took the compute focused GPU lead with Fermi, and AMD followed with GCN. Both have made improvements since, but you really can't say nVidia took the same technology that AMD had already.

Both sides are guilty of rebranding, unfortunately.

Re: News - Have AMD Hawaii R9-290X benchmarks and pics leaked?

Going to wait to see how these are priced before making any moves - Have recently made the jump to 2560x1440 so am running 7970 in cf. I'd say that two of the new R9 cards would still be needed to hit 60 solid fps in most current games, so may hold onto them for a while longer. As ever, we await the proper release and benches. Haven't picked up a new card for ages, since 5850, but wanting to stop the 'buy the last generation' game at some point.

Pretty sure nvidia has the Ti versions up its sleeve to counter any of AMD's up-coming GPUs

Re: News - Have AMD Hawaii R9-290X benchmarks and pics leaked?

I'd be stunned if they do. At this point, I feel AMD are going to start a bit of a price war and Ti models are not going to help nVidias case unless they also stop the blatant price gouging.

Re: News - Have AMD Hawaii R9-290X benchmarks and pics leaked?

AMD you make me pride , why buy a greedy Nvidia that never cares for the consumer instead cares alot for the cash. imagine if AMD wasent here, you would still pay a geforce 8800 or something a little better for the premium price of 1000$. Man i love competition, its allways a good thing for us end users. Till my pulse beats in my veins, it will transport Red juice, and thats the color of Radeon that I wont let down. AMD fan here so no hard fealings to every one else out there...

If so, then - as usual - I bought the current gen too late. There's got to be a downside of this - either it's a power vampire or sounds like a leaf blower.

Wonder if you could Crossfire one of these with an old 7970?

Why on earth would you want to crossfire it with a 7970? Doing so would dumb it down to the 7970's level.

It's academic as you can't crossfire it with a 7970!
