Could be tempted by a Surface 2 at the right price. I'm on a Windows 7 i5 laptop at the moment, but it is more of a desktop replacement, even with just a 15.6 inch screen. So maybe a reduced price Surface 2 or I might just buy a Surface 3 in a year or so.

Having paid £279 for a refurb Dell Latitude 10 it's been a real relief to finally have a tablet which is completely flexible in the same way my PC is... especially when, as over the past 10 days, I have no internet and Dropbox stops being a useful way to exchange tablet data.

Ok, the Dell's low res screen's a bit cramped and old school in desktop mode (which is the only mode I use), but it's a proper little tool as long as you don't want to run anything too intensive. So I can certainly see the attraction of a Win8 tablet now.

However I still think RT is laughable. If you want a crippled and constrictive device an iPad makes infinitely more sense. The whole point of Windows is flexibility and openness... a fact Microsoft have been rediscovering the hard way.

Anyway, the Latitude 10 will do me very nicely indeed for now. I certainly want a Surface2, but I'm never going to pay that kind of money for one. Five hundred is the absolute limit I'd even consider.

I suspect you guess very right. :-)

I will probably buy an 8" Windows tablet at some point, with the hope of cutting down on my game backlog (mostly in the adventure game department). Not sure how well it will work for that, but I think it's worth a try. I'm currently playing mainly on my Nexus 7, and while there are some good games coming to it (I'm enjoying Shadowrun Returns at the moment), having a full PC gaming catalogue is much nicer (plus prices tend to be lower on the PC).

RT is a non-starter as I refuse to use IE as a browser.

Not that interested in touchscreen anyway, certainly not enough to pay a premium for it.

Will probably stick to strategy of using Windows as proper desktop OS. Maybe at some point add either a Chromebook or cheapy android tablet for portable duties - but my old netbook is still going strong enough for now.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be buying the second-gen Microsoft Surface?

If they did the Surface Pro (2) for the price of the Surface then I'd be interested - but at the current pricing I'd go for an Ultrabook and accept the increased thickness/weight as the price for greater flexibility.

RT is a good idea in theory, but for me the only plus points - usable USB and bundled Office - aren't good enough to counter the disadvantages of poor app support, (and I hate IE). My mobile use of office is low enough that something like Docs2Go is good enough, and there's Android tablets out there with USB support.

All that said, while I'm not interested in Surface RT (mk 1 or 2), I'm currently on the hunt for a good deal on an RT tablet to replace a 10" Android one that a relative has that's just broken. Any "warehouse clearance" sales on the older RT?

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Saving for the new Lenovo Yoga. It has a QHD screen and better specs... probably will cost a lot more but hey.

The Surface Pro is too expensive. I like Windows and Windows Phone, but this device is just way too expensive.
