I have already paid for it with my TV licence! If they allowed TV licence holders to download it for no extra cost then it would be good.

Sooner or later, shows you buy from a digital store will be taken from you.

Re: News - BBC Store will allow people to buy, watch, and keep programmes

    Tv licence break down.

The BBC used its income from the licence fee to pay for its TV, radio and online services, plus other costs, as shown below.

    TV

    £7.96 per month per household

    Radio

    £2.11 per month per household.

    Online

    £0.66 per month per household.

    Other costs

    £1.40 per month per household.

I currently pay for Dr Who box sets without issue and no one seems to say that is wrong (as we know series sets are not cheap).

If they want to sell me ondemand/ digital versions then I am all for it.

Without the fee I would be forced to pay for premium tv and we all know that costs more than £7.96 a month and they won't let me have all their content for free after I watched it, even though I paid for it.

    Nope.

The TV licence covers the installation and use of TV receivers at a premises specified to watch broadcast television, it does not cover the creation of the programming, in the same way that having a SKY subscription covers receiving satellite broadcast but does not entitle ownership of the content created by sky.

Yes, the revenue generated from licensing is used for content creation by the BBC (as from subscriptions by Sky), but paying money for the right to receive a service does not entitle ownership of that service.

The licence fee has been frozen so while the BBC needs to find new and innovative ways to deliver content to keep the modern consumer happy, they need to do so with an effectively shrinking budget (equivalent to a 16% drop in over 6 years). They are also not stupid, they realise the licence fee model is dated and need to move to a more realistic format for revenue, hence services like those being announced.

To me this is good news, I've often missed content on iplayer because of the 7 days, and hopefully with the store will now be able to pick up old or more obscure series that I'd like to watch again.
