My USB 3 ports all stopped working. Seemed to be a common problem too.
Re: News - Windows 8.1 mouse lag is making some games unplayable
I know at least one person who is downgrading already and several people who are refusing to "upgrade". Seems like M$ have ****ed up again, I guess it should be no big surprise with their track record...
Re: News - Windows 8.1 mouse lag is making some games unplayable
Isn't this issue directly related to the new DPI scaling functionality, and isn't it only going to effect developers who expressly ignored MS directives on how to program against the platform.
Not to mention, you can quickly fix this issue by flicking compatibility on, for those effected by the change.
To me it appears like this is being spun as a negative for 8.1. In fact its more a case these devs ignored the advice from Microsoft, but no matter its still backwards compatable
Re: News - Windows 8.1 mouse lag is making some games unplayable
I had better not update my girlfriends laptop, if she can't play soliaire with the mouse she won't be happy!
Re: News - Windows 8.1 mouse lag is making some games unplayable
I love the first chart. It looks like the new driver makes the APU faster by 200% when in fact it's only 9%. Creative marketing at its best :)
Re: News - Windows 8.1 mouse lag is making some games unplayable
I guess I'm one of the lucky few, that's updated and had absolutely no issues at all?
Then again, I bet that any little glitch found in W8/8.1 will be blown out of proportion since it's gotten such bad press up til now :/

It's quite clearly 9%.

I 100% agree... few older games easily fixed with a simple setting. Unfortunately the frothy mouthed ranters of the world are never ones for a reasonable and balanced assessment...

Nope, you're not the only one - all is well here too.

Yup, sadly most 'tech news' organisations don't know their DirectInput from their win32 API. So why have any understanding on this, when you can have a sensationalist story.
I am more impressed that a game, badly written 10 years ago, can run without any code changes to the game.

Considering the games mentioned in the article were made way before 8.1 I don't really see how the game devs can be blamed. It's a case of M$ not checking with game devs not the other way around...

I don't know if you are trolling or not.
Most devs on windows, will subscribe to MSDN. It's Microsoft's documentation service, and you get some software n support tickets. Even if you are cheap and don't want to pay a penny its all up on msdn.microsoft.com
They have been using mouse capture incorrectly for years. We are talking about an API that came in around 1995 for 95 and 96 for NT4 IIRC.
So yeah. Almost 20 years they've been saying not to do it the way they where doing it. And you blame MS?!
Re: News - Windows 8.1 mouse lag is making some games unplayable
Well I was that impressed with windows 8.1 I reinstalled windows 7 ultra after using windows 8 for 6 months its all left a bad taste in my mouth to be honest

It IS 9%, however it isn't CLEARLY 9%.
Take away the numbers and does the chart give a CLEAR view of performance increase? No? Then it's not a clear chart.

Actually I agree with ChinesePate. By using a truncated axis (and not breaking the axis to make it immediately clear that's what they've done), the initial impression is of a significant gain because the bar is 'twice as long'.
I realise that they've labelled it clearly so they haven't technically done anything wrong, but it is a blatant psychological trick to make people think they're getting more than they are. It's sneaky, and as someone who has studied maths and stats I always find it infuriating!
