A bit of an unpleasant one though, to tell someone that's just joined they've more money than sense, and imply they might be stupid enough to buy left-handed screwdrivers or tartan paint.

That's the kind of welcome that can lead to people deciding to go contribute on some other forum.

The thing is, we have a fairly robust sense of humour when it comes to long-standing members reacting to each other, and remarks like that addressed between them would just be taken as the usual mutual banter. With new members, before they've got used to us, it could be taken badly, so a bit more restraint is probably best .... at least until they've firmly gotten the HEXUS bug and won't walk.

Oh, and MMAX63, welcome to the bearpit .... erm I mean HEXUS. I hope you're wearing your steel-plate and flame-proof underwear, 'cos it can get a bit, erm, robust round here on occasion. Just kidding.

no most definitely not. Tempted by the sub £400 7990 though much better value and dual gpu card runs cooler than the r9 290x

I have dual MSI 660Ti Power Edition in SLI, which kick out performance at about the same level, so no, not at the moment.

Certainly wouldn't buy a factory cooled version, it would have to be an MSI TwinFrozr, Asus DirectCU, Gigabyte Windforce or similar

Not till Asus, MSI or SApphire release cards with better coolers.

There is only one major problem with the price gouging, anyone with half a brain knows that $549 is nowhere near £425-£450 with the exchange rate at $1.61 to £1. Even if it was massively better in performance this rip-off Britain price is a big fat No!

Don't forget to add 20% VAT. And import taxes. And potentially the additional shipping costs to get the cards to the EU/UK. And early adopter tax

Just doing straight exchange and adding VAT gives you £410. If you can pick up a 290X for £425, that's probably pretty reasonable considering how small a market the UK is...

Personally I wouldnt, however, I bet others (like those who bought/considering the Titan) will surely give it a try if needed.

It's still obvious that a Gtx780 will be more in favor for customers over this r9 290x.

I'll buy one if it can fit in a tablet form factor.

That's a very fair point, it really was meant in humour but I appreciate that sometimes, when written down, the tone can easily be lost when read by another. Apologies and welcome to Hexus MMAX63 - Let me know when you're upgrading as I might be in the market to by a Titan by then

Around Christmas when we can compare a 780ti vs 780 vs AIB R9290x vs AIB R9 290.
Then I'll have a much better idea. Until then the OC 7970 was fine on BF4
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Nope, AUD $700 is too much. I will wait for the price in Aus to drop a little and also for the aftermarket coolers to come. I will possibly end up with the straight r9 290 or the r9 280x / 7970 GE

Nope, not my price bracket for graphics cards. Waiting to see what the midrange stuff comes out at.
