Apple, that's how you do a budget smart phone
... but you still got it. Phone was released in feb and you got it in Aug, relatively speaking that isn't too bad. Most phones don't get any update at all. I'm still waiting for 4.3 on my SP aswell which is only a couple of months newer
Bear in mind, the differences past 4.1 are fairly minimal up till 4.4, so its not a big deal. Its the people on anything below 4.0 who really suffer.
The story has always been the same on android, if you want up to date releases quickly, you gotta get a phone directly from google or take the risk and stick a ROM on there.
OT but Sony's updates announced.

Amazon.co.uk listed this Moto at £160, but the cheaper Phones4U price might still be on as it will be a network locked example. However when popping into P4U they usually let you know if it is really locked or not.
the one on amazon was 16gb, phones4u is 8gb.... I know which option I'll be going for if the specs listed on phandroid are true or close to it (camera is obviously wrong as is the odds of it having kit kat)
