Moving from Android to a different platform and wanting to use the other platform to store the data rather than Googles services on that platform would be why.

Given the pain we had trying to get my partners contact details off her Blackberry I could not recommend a Blackberry phone to anyone. The software would not let you download the contacts just stored on the phone, except if you were transferring to another Blackberry phone in which case that was fine and dandy.

Fair point, I thought it was for archive purpose only.

Well that as well, Google haven't been known for losing peoples data unlike other providers but it's always good to have a backup

I just e mailed contact cards from my Blackberry to the e mail client on my desktop computer and they were imported into the contact list.

I honestly and sincerely wish Google would lose every last bit of data on me, seeing as I didn't want them having any in the first place.
