Re: News - SilverStone Raven RVZ01 Mini-ITX chassis hits retail this week

Am I the only one that is mega excited about this! At last a chassis that can fit dual slot graphics and is not really fat like most mini-ITX cases. At least gives us an alternative to the ludicrously overpriced M8...

I'm not super keen on the exterior styling but it looks like a job well done designing the interior.

Definitely a welcome addition to the mini-ITX selection. My home builds will be focusing on this forma factor in the future. The old ATX/micro ATX is just dinosaur huge.

Hmm... It's not really that small, is it? And while you can install a slim slot-in optical disc drive, those properties seriously narrow the selection. The Sugo SG10 suffers from the same problem, sadly.

Re: News - SilverStone Raven RVZ01 Mini-ITX chassis hits retail this week

I wonder if it's worth waiting for the ML07, just don't want to be waiting ages for it though. I don't understand why they don't just release the ML07 and the RVZ01 at the same time as it uses the same internal chassis.

I guess I could always just buy the RVZ01 for now and just give it to my brother once the ML07 comes out.

As asrael said, unfortunately these are not that small but I can't see any other slim cases with this form factor supporting a SFX PSU and a long graphics card with decent ventilation for under £100. Although something like a Sugo SG05 has a smaller internal volume (Around 10.8L vs this one which is at around 14.2L - making this 30% larger volume wise) it however takes up a bigger footprint due to it having 3 almost equal lengths whereas this case is pretty thin so that means you can have it in a TV cabinet or if you stand it up, you take the least amount of horizontal footprint (but the most vertical but generally this is not an issue on desks). Hopefully that makes sense.

For me, my desk is rather cramped and I don't like to put my PC on the floor, so with this case, I can simply stand it up behind my monitor and save a lot of space.

I think I'll be moving to MATX form factor for my next build. I've had enough integrated sound cards or NICs die on previous motherboard to warrant having at least a couple of spare slots available just in case. Granted these could be added using USB adapters, but cards tend to be a bit cheaper & more reliable in my experience.

There's a video review of this case over on Youtube:

It looks good, although a bit plasticy, & limited to SFX PSUs...

SFX PSUs shouldn't be a problem, since you can get decent 450W units which can power most single card setups, and there are rumorus (have been for quite a while) that there will be 600W versions coming out which I would imagine would be able to power any single card setup.

There are a few available, I know Silverstone even sell a modular one. But the choice at the moment is a bit limited...

Quite liked this case, had to opt for something else though - once I factored in the additional cost of a SFX PSU Optical Drive - brings the price of the case up well over £100.
I really like the idea of the riser card, hope more case manufacturers catch on.

You don't really need choice though (in my opinion), the Silverstone units are good quality and a reasonable price (from what I remember).
I've currently got the gold rated modular version you refer to

Strange as it may sound, I wish this case was more expensive. I really like the layout of cases that split away the cards, but it looks a bit "tinny" if you see what I mean. I can imagine this thing being very loud, and I'd happily pay £100 for a more robust version of this case with added soundproofing.

I am not feeling the love for this one - it looks like a pimped plastic cheapo that an OEM would churn out.

How many folks are going to populate a Mini-ITX chassis with top end graphics cards??

Re: News - SilverStone Raven RVZ01 Mini-ITX chassis hits retail this week

The exterior is a deal breaker for me. I really don't like the matte look. If you told me it was a Dell Optiplex I would probably believe you. The original Raven was impressive and I really liked the idea of a Mini ITX Raven.

The Alienware X51 looks better than this. I'd certainly rather have that in my living room.

I hate being a hater on this when I heard about this case I was super excited, maybe that's why I am so upset.

AFAIK that's the only gold-rated modular SFX PSU available though - I'm sure it's a good unit, but I'd prefer a Seasonic equivalent Know doubt more manufacturers will release similar units eventually though, small systems will only get more popular I think...

    Edit!

    Ha...speak of the devil...

Waited for it to appear on Scan and it finally appeared today but it was priced at £67.20 so I've preordered it at OCUK for £50 + delivery.

I wonder why there is a big markup, usually Scan are pretty good with prices.
