16 billions, buahahahaha! good for them, they fooled Zuck to pay them so much money for something that worth a few millions, at much...
FB would have to be stupid to introduce ads on Whatsapp given that a) Whatsapp actually makes money and b) it hasn't had to sell out to advertisers whilst all for the price of a McCoys crisp packet. It is a bargain.
Whatsapp founder has said nothing will change, same team, same ethos. Even if they doubled the price people would pay it as long as there is no ads.

Does it make a profit though? I know about 15 people who use Whatsapp and only 2 of them have paid that fee the others have not. Whatsapp is destined for doom in my opinion as it no longer has free roam on the competition as you have things like Google Hangouts which works very well and can be used on Android and iOS (not sure on Windows Phone...), as its arriving as the default SMS application on Android 4.4 Kitkat I would expect to see adoption improve even further, I use hangouts all the time now as it works well has no ads and is free I can even use it on my gmail... thats just great .
Cant see this lasting, 450 million active users this month could mean 4.5 million users have paid which isnt very much considering how much the backend hardware is and the R&D on the software.
Doomed I tell you doomed! And Facebook just wasted $16 billion haha.
I'm not so sure. Most of the people I know prefer What’s App to Hangout; I know I do. But I agree that given Hangouts is coming as the SMS App for Kitkat, it could make a difference. I think what makes What’s App so popular is its ease of use. It’s very simple and has, for me at least, completely replaced SMS as my primary messaging tool. The only time I ever use SMS now is when my Rugby club send out Teamster reminders for training or matches.
One thing though; I have never paid for What’s app in all the years I’ve had it. In fact, of all the people I know who use it, I only know of 2 that have paid. Even though the App has a service expiration date for me, it just automatically extends it each year. I thought I might have set up automatic payment, but no payment has ever been taken. Strange. Perhaps they offered it free for early adopters?
HangOut's terms of service is abhorrent when compared with WhatsApp.

$16 billion is alot of money someone could easily retire off that but I haven't heard about Whatsapp for quite a while now, im talking about a year? Seems nowadays people only use snapchat and facebook seems to be dull now
