Reading is just the closest town to us that most people have heard of and we have an RG postcode. I'm about 8 miles away from the nearest train station. We don't even get gas or sewerage out here. I think it's all being diverted to service the MOD place round the corner.

I use Eclipse as an ISP. Not the cheapest by far, but support is superb and I get my expected 40Mb/sec all day every day, no shaping, no filtering, no contention that I can detect.

However peak time data is metered and the AUP allows you to spend more to up the allowance. In my last house I struggled to get over 2Mb/sec, but that meant I set a lower data allowance and paid less. I would have liked more speed, but at no point did I feel cheated.

The data going in and out of ISP network to the Internet has to be paid for by the ISP, and hence ultimately by the customers.

Ah right ... as the teens are saying ... soz (and that's about as hip as I get)

I take it all back. No sewerage service ... that's 3rd world. Can see you NEED broadband, if for no other reason than to complain Berkshire council to get their (rear's) in gear and get you into the 20th century.

Maybe you should move to Aberlour for an improved quality of life... actually, on reflection, I'd better zip it before my big gub digs me any deeper into this hole. I'll get me coat...

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...
