If I had the money, I'd be one of the enthusiasts - as long as it didn't require me to have/link-to a facebook account anyway.
My friend has one on order - it's due to arrive in August
The f**k?Oculus Rift third-person hack – it's you in a third person view
Still waiting for mine and the unfortunate fact is that they're behind on manufacturing , they said they would ship between 20 and 30k units in July whereas now the real estimate is 5k units shipped by the middle of july and then a further 5k shipped right at the tail end(probabaly arrive in august) so they're probabaly around a month behind schedule which is a shame as I have been waiting for the DK2 for ages (skipped the DK1... was agonising!), ordered mine within 5 hours of launch so i am hoping that I am in the first 10k .
Cant wait for this its apparently so good... yes I am still yet totry it but its only the cost of 2 decent 23" monitors so the price is justifiable to me . I shall report back when my unit finally arrives.

Tried one of these at Eurogamer and it was a brilliant experience. I'm waiting for the consumer version before I jump in though, not too interested in developing for it, and by then support from games should be even better.
Of all gizmos and gadgets either currently being made or in development, this is the one that I would most like to experience.
Categorically need one for Elite: Dangerous but not going to commit till the consumer version lands. Even then I'll be dubious till higher res versions are mainstream.
Really hope that the problems I had with DK1 were problems with the tech and not me. I couldn't keep it on for more than a few seconds before I needed a sickbag and had to rip the headset off

99% sure it wasnt a problem with yourself, the DK1 was using a standard LCD display which had huge lag, standard displays just arent suitable for VR and thankfully in DK2 they have changed to OLED (same display as the samsung note 3) which now has a low persistence setting which basically eradicates motion blur thus nullifying motion sickness for the vast majority, highly advise trying DK2 to see if its okay for you now .
I actually know a couple of people that are excited to get their DK2's, and I cant wait to see what stuff they develop for use with them.
I first tried Oculus at the Game Of Thrones exhibition in Belfast about three weeks ago. Absolutely fantastic experience, so immersive - now we just need game developers to use their imagination.
