They come from the dark and slice your head off
An elderly DGM 24" 1920x1200 PVA - the image is still gorgeously vibrant but it's hefty and runs very hot compared to a modern LED screen. Suspect that this may be donated to my wife soon now that there are a number of temptingly priced higher-res screens on offer.
Mainly non-twitch gaming, so neither speed nor colour fidelity are the #1 consideration, but I do set my monitors up quite carefully to make the best of them.
I saw a deal for a BENQ 27 inch 1920x1080 screen a little while back for £134. Only a basic screen with VGA/DVI connectors (that's all I need for the PC), and no speakers (running 5.1 anyways so don't need this either).
So instead of spending £500 on a decent 1440p screen I bought 3x the BENQ screens for £400 and run them in surround mode. The extra real estate is very useful.
Just waiting for the 800 series Nvidia cards to take full advantage of them now.
Samsung SyncMaster 305T and a 24 inch Samsung Sync Master
Even though the 30 incher is older its screen is still vibrant and very good to look down side it made me apreciate how much better a screen can be than my current TV
The 24 inch after 6 years of use for gaming the backlight is begining to go but iv no complaints at all

I've got a Samsung syncmaster 2693HM 25.5" 1080p monitor, had it for a number of years and it's been brilliant, use to be the old gaming monitor but have upgraded that to...
The HP ZR30w 30" IPS monitor running at 2560 x 1600. Had this a couple of years now, stunning images and a quality made product.
4k is definitely an option later on but not so much of an upgrade for me as someone on a 1080p system. Price is an issue at the moment because I know you need some beastly graphics cards to run 2k let alone 4K if you like your setting on high/very high and let's be honest why bother if they're not, right? I'm waiting on that for now..
I'm using a Dell 22" 2209WA IPS as my primary (1680x1050) and a now ancient Samsung Syncmaster 172X. The former is still fine for gaming with a 4870X2 and I wont bother upgrading until I upgrade the graphics to something 4k capable and the Dell only when a 28"+ 4k screen becomes affordable. As for the 172X, will likely eventually use it on a KVM to view my various low-power devices, though it's 9 years old now so who knows how much longer it will last!
It has an external power supply, so the main reason for dying Samsung monitors (capacitors in the power supply failing) is external and easily replaceable. Either replace the caps or the entire PSU brick, which is most likely going to be 14V 3A (42W). You could replace it with a 12V 4A (48W) brick in a pinch.. or just connect it up straight to 12V from the PC PSU..

Still rockin on 3 x DELL 2007 WFP 20.5"
Using a fast ccfl 42" 1080p LG HDTV.
Waiting for 4k 60Hz to come down a decent bit.
Using a Dell 2711 IPS monitor. I've always liked Dells monitors, even at the higher cost over other brands.
