Probably not their SSHD line specifically, but it does establish a pattern with the mechanics of their drives in general: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-...eptember-2014/

Actually that's something that's always bothered me - when you swap out an old drive what's the consensus on what to do with the old one? I've got old Maxtor (!!!!) 80GB drives in the loft and some that are a bit newer, but still too small and slow to be useful in any new build, or even in a disk crate (anything less than 200GB is a waste of time in a crate since you can get 250GB SSD's relatively cheaply these days).
At the moment I've been disassembling the drives, damaging the platters, and putting the debris (minus the magnets) into the metal recycling. The magnets are quite useful for sticking stuff up (notes etc) in the garage since they're pretty strong.
But there must be a better way...
I figured that, but it did give me a much-needed bit of comedy relief in what was otherwise a pretty lousy working day.![]()
I've been collecting hard drives recently, just for the purpose of building up enough so I can make some £££ from them. I don't have a lot, only 16 or so old drives on my desk (3.5") and a few 2.5" drives.
Some of them are small-ish, 8GB upto 120GB and a few are bigger. Some work well, some just don't work. I just have to go through them and see which ones I want to chuck into the recycling.
I'm also collecting processors and old RAM and one day I will either get all the gold/other precious metals from the chips or just sell the box for someone else to do it.
You could take the platters out, stick some little rubber feet on the bottom and use them as coasters?
I perform a secure wipe pass on mine, then they go to the tip in the small appliance recycling section.
And yeah, the magnets are *really* strong aren't they![]()
I have several drives from several manufacturers and touch wood, they're all fine... However I did have a Deathstar that failed... Though the HGST version I have from 2007 is still going strong!
This is awesome 1PBis 1024TB, and 1EB is 1024PB, so 1ZB is an insane 1024EB i need more than 120 games to fill 1TB!!!![]()

Just enough for my steam library!![]()
All I took from the article is that the people who made the infographic can't use correct grammar.
Nothing can comprise "of" anything. It's like saying a bucket contains "of" water.
It should say:
"99% of that traffic will comprise" or "99% of that traffic will be composed of".
Consumer hardrives are well overdue an upgrade we have been stuck with a few measly terabytes for a few years now. I need more room for my steam games!
What we all want to know is how many 3 minute mp3's we can fit onto one of these - ha!
I wonder how much of this traffic is porn.![]()
