Dont think that much.. indeed AMD just made a partnership with a chip manufacturer to produce a new line of cpu/gpu with 14-20nm FinFet.
    2) they may have worded it very carefully - 'new line' may mean precisely only the new chips, allowing room for them to rebrand existing chips as part of a R300 series with or without the pirate islands chips.
They already rebranded several hd7000 series, at this point they wont anymore rebrand r200 series due to structural limitation of that line of chips, wich wont grant anything much more than just sun core temperatures.
And at high temperature the performance slows down automatically, and then will make the rebranding a dead end. That's why they need for the new line of chips to have a different architecture to grant lower temp and better performance.

R300 series will crunch up quite well Nvidia, especially in the range of price/performance.
That's kind of a given, because AMD have no alternative but to price cards lower if they perform worse.

Sadly, that's just speculation and not what the sales figures are showing.
Surely is quite well a speclation, but Nvidia with these new GTX9x0 has made really a bad impression over customers, especially with memory issues of they're cards and Coil Whine problems.
Honestly, in the hurry to do something to try to kill AMD sales, they just overestimated they're they're potentials (wich i dont say they dont have, but they were too much selfconfident).
AMD will surely strike back with something new from the hat, and that will be something for AMD to put efforts in.
Tonga Architecture is one of them, maybe the r9 285 was just an experiment that still suprised many reviewers. So i wont be so sure that AMD will stay still and see Nvidia grab every customer around..

When nVidia and AMD rebrand, all they do is sell a previous generation card as a new generation but from further down the line. So a 280 may become a 370 for example. There is no reason why a rebranded card will suddenly run hotter.

Looking at this, seems there's little chance of either of the actually new cards coming in anywhere near that, which is something I don't understand since my 6950 was £190 a few months after release and that was a second-rung card that could be unlocked (pretty much) to the top tier 6970. What's with the inflation in the GPU market?
This one makes sense as HBM is too expensive for anything except the high-end right now. There is no point in developing a new set of midrange and below cards without the HBM interface when they'd basically be developing a new one the year after with HBM.

    I'm holding off my gcard upgrade for this too, I keep checking for news each day on the fiji 390x :-) my current gcard is showing its age with some games and I holding myself back from playing them until this gets released.. i hope it isn't super expensive ;_;

Re: AMD Radeon 300 series graphics cards rumour roundup

Ahh the rumour mill runs amok. Why can't they whet our appetite a bit and give us some definite info.
Anyway, they will be interesting to see when they come out, Then we will know for sure what is there and more important, how much will they cost.
Talk of rumors, I was reading a article on 8K panels the other day, what will it take to run 8K games, and how long before we will get movies and games in 8K, worst part is how much will that cost to upgrade and when is it the best time to upgrade? This is the companies using manufactured obsolescence, or at least making us feel we like we have to upgrade.

WTF is going on?. Previous reports said that the 380X would come with HBM and I was looking forward to the 380X, but now this report is saying that the 380X is just a rebranded 290X!!!.

I think what's going on is you've forgotten what 'rumour' means AMD haven't put out any official information yet.

Re: AMD Radeon 300 series graphics cards rumour roundup

I thought the 390x would be the HBM cards not 380x (as you said a 290x rebrand).

But then wtf do we know??
