The new touchwiz looks better, although MKBHD's video of impressions of the phones, touchwiz was lagging. I had to restrain myself from facepalming, because I think I may have knocked myself out...

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones launched

They do look nice, but the fixed battery is a complete deal breaker for me. I'm a quite heavy mobile user and have always brought XL-sized double-capacity batteries for my phones.

The lack of an SD card slot is a significant negative too, though not strictly essential for me.

this bottom... I have seen this before... but where?
    hm...

(you know what sucks? no, it is not that they copy because they want to make it on the cheap, it is that Samsung pay a lot of money for great designs that the top level executives dismiss to follow something that is proven on the market, even if that means to copy a competitors successful product...)

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones launched

Why I'd buy this phone if I had the money:

Cost for the next GB model was only 30 pounds.
Bigger battery to trade for a bigger and more rounded body (like the HTC)
    A really nice 1080P screen
    Cost 479 for the 32GB

That'd give it a fighting chance, but currently I think they'll sell less than the S5 (at least to enthusiasts).

My GT4Pro has an octa-core cpu and 2GB ram and I felt the TW software lagging it on swipes, took about 4 hours before it was rooted and the sammy software nuked. I would love to know what it is doing.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones launched

I'm puzzled as to how they've failed to make it waterproof when all of the ingredients are there.

Having a sealed back, wireless charging and no msd slot all point towards making it water and dust proof.
Only the usb port could be a sticking point.

Shame really as it ticked all my other boxes

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones launched

The problem Samsung are going to have with this is charging iPhone money for something that isn't an iPhone. Had both products undercut the respective iPhone prices they would probably do significantly better than the last galaxy but when your charging a premium price for a product that a significant portion of your potential consumer base won't purchase you have to appeal on price alone.
I was very much interested in the edge up until the potential prices were floated around. £700ish is far too much to spend on a phone, even one with a fancy curvy screen

I've always had Galaxy but my upgrade in September will be for something that has a replaceable battery AND External memory slot. I reckon Samsung has made a huge mistake by leaving these out.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones launched

I have movies and TV show on my micro SD, and can fill up several micro SD's full to take with me at times when I am stuck in hospital for weeks. My Mother has eye problems and has to listen to audiobooks now and I load up lots for when they go on holidays. Normally at least 2 64GB Micro SD cards full, even a couple of times had 3. So not having a micro SD slot is a big loss.
Then no easily changed battery is another big loss, although I do have a couple of battery packs I can plug in via usb. Needs to have a optional battery pack which locks onto the phone for when it is charging with a usb port which connects through to the phone.
No micro SD would be the deal breaker for the question - Will I upgrade to a new S6?
Needs to have user friendly options like mentioned above, plus aiming towards new ones like lighter, at least 1m to 1.5m drop impact proof case and display, waterproof, and if possible some flexibility in the case to help prevent damage. This would more than likely move from the use of metals and glass towards mostly plastics.
Although, to be fair, there are some very nice improvements, particularly technological, that Samsung has included within the new S6 phones.
    But at what cost!

USB 3.0 has been out that long that it is already being superseded with 3.1. And we have only gotten just used to 3.0 being normal, what is next should be looked at to be included in the phone to stay as a phone to consider.
In the article above there is mention of a wifi speed of 620Mb/s, if you are relying on a cloud for streaming or downloading, I hope this is not the maximum wifi speed.
    I to, am disappointed.

For the above critiscisms the Note 4 is the phone apart from usb3. I reckon the connector is too big which is why they have gone back to usb2 although the new c-type connector could have been used

You do know that the older phones faired much better in drop tests because of the construction don't you? But they still got slated for not premium feel...lol

I did fancy the S5 Edge but the lack of SD slot is a non starter

As an upgrade from my note2, I guess it's a Note4 or Note Edge for me now.

I use a http://www.meenova.com/ for TV shows and the like, in your case I would think that was actually better as its easier to swap SD cards without having to take the back off the phone

Your assuming people don't buy Apple because of price...for me (and many others) it's just the last straw. We don't buy Apple because you have to use the device the way Apple says you must use it, only run the apps Apple say you can run and can only have the spec Apple says you can have.......and they have the cheek to charge top-whack for it.

Technically, the flagship Android phones shouldn't need to cost less than the respective iPhone....and in many cases should cost more due to parts and development costs.
