Yup....looking to get a JS7000 to make it a top notch viewing experience!
    i7 4790
    Asrock H97 ITX
    16gb 1600 ram
    Asus Strix GTX 980
    Silverstone SFX 600
    Silverstone ML07
    Samsung 840 EVOLUTION 1TB

This rig is pretty quiet and gets awesome performance in game. I don't store videos on the drive all streaming.

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

I have a budget VCR gutted out and the insides replaced with an Asus AT5IONT-I, 4gb RAM and I think a 250gb HDD but I have a 1tb SSHD to try out in it. To be honest its too underpowered, it was running win xp and it was ok then I did the cheap upgrade to win 8 and it was poor so I got rid of windows and installed kodibuntu and its still too slow (oh it's overclocked to 1.9ghz too).

So if anyone has any suggestions for a lightweight media focussed OS I'd love to hear about them !

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

Yep, i3, 4GB RAM 970 in an ITX case. It started out as a HTPC, but then I won a 970 so it's now a gaming rig too. It's hooked up to my 4k TV so it's not really adequate, but it is fine for when I can't use my main PC in the study for whatever reason, or if I just want some sofa gaming (Sunday Witcher 3 days!)

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

    HP ProLiant N54L AMD MicroServer
    4G 5-5-5-15 DDR3
    SSD (EVO) for OS
    HD 2*3TB WD Greens
    GT630 2 GB - bastardized to fit
DVD optical and USB 3 added

    Main use is movies.
Next use is backups of household PC's.
Then it does video transcoding or the odd torrent task.

Works great for what it is. HD's can be noisy doing work but usually no bother.
Biggest pill is that there is no sleep (STR).

yep mine and my wifes both tower systems ..
the question you should be asking is it healthy to have pc's in your front room ..
as we stopped communicating for a while .. make the time to see each other instead of just the screen

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

Nope. Had a 360 and PS3 hooked up at various times to the living room TV and also tried Steam streaming just to test it but if prefer gaming at a desktop rather than on the couch.

For media streaming, I use a WDTV but would prefer something newer that could do a bit more, like a Fire/Google TV or similar. Tried the Chromecast and thought it was distinctly meh.

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

Built a real QUIET pc from old parts a few years ago for use with windows media center. Now that this wonderful program is gone - there is less need for it. Most any small device will pull and play movies / tv shows from my network so we shall see what is next.

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

I don't have a living room, or more precisely - my living room is my bedroom. If that counts - I do have my laptop there most of the time, but it's hooked up to 2x 23-inch FHD screens, as I don't even have a TV. I'm going to get a desktop PC soon, but it'll use triple monitor setup. I might get a TV and a HTPC or Xbox One in a year or two, though. Though playing on a TV screen, while pleasant, isn't really worth the money for me.

I have a stupidly large Unraid server that provides all of the storage and processing power. That allows me to host plex centrally and then use media streamers in both bedrooms, lounge, my parents house as well as a number of mobile devices.

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

Two PC's in the living room, but that's my "office". No plans for a " media PC" basically because there's no need. TiVo, Xbox and BD home theatre setup connected to smart TV with various NAS boxes around the place do the job.
Did have someone try to sell me on the idea by saying I could do emails etc on the large screen (rather than powering up a proper desktop) but to be honest Android tablets are good enough and handier.
What I'd really like though is some kind of mini NAS that could use the various 2.5" drives I've got lying around and give me media streaming. Complication is that the drives are various capacities and the budget doesn't stretch to a Drobo. Did think about rolling my own with a mini-itx board, but couldn't find a suitable case. Maybe that's a project for the winter months...

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

I used to have one many years ago when it was sorta the easiest way to watch downloaded TV and movies in the living room. Recently though I've found myself not leaving my bedroom so I tend to consume all my media on my main PC using a 32" HDTV as a monitor, it's not really a HTPC set-up though.

If I ever find myself with a living room of my own I would definitely build one but it'd have to be a powerful gaming one now as I don't think cheap silent ones make that much sense anymore.

Re: QOTW: Do you have a PC in your living room?

Have used a PC as the main TV source since Windows MCE came out.

Currently running an older i5 based Dell 980 SFF modified to take an SDD + large SATA drive, ASUS sound card and AMD 6450 video - use it to watch DVb-T live TV, store music/video/pictures/stream media from (plex)/NowTV/Spotify etc. and generally use it as a server/NAS. Small and quiet, hidden in a ventilated cupboard.
