Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

Ehh, I'm torn, I don't like being limited, yet I'm also still on the 3rd driver released for the 980Ti 353.38 because while I do get some driver crashes, I've minimized them and know what to expect out of these ones.

So I don't mind quarterly updates(my drivers usually work fine on newer games [980 Ti brute force FTW]) but I might if I find a game the refuses to run with my current ones... Battlefront BETA did, but I wasn't in that big of a rush to play it.

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

Depends on your playstyle I suppose. If you play the latest games then you might be strongarmed into it.

I was forced to update drivers for the battlefront beta which I didn't appreciate. My system was working fine for all other games. It hasn't introduced any issues, nor has it improved noticeable performance elsewhere.

Quarterly should work fine assuming the games won't load without the latest driver, and I'm sure there'll be a work around for that.

Does AMD employ a similar thing? Could always rely on windows update

Since the Windows 10/Nvidia update which sent machines into a spin, why would you want "day one" driver updates anyway? ... and then have to hand over your email address for the privilege? ... seriously? ... gtfo!

No, AMD doesn't. AMD does try to sneak in the equivalent of GF experience in with driver installs if you're not careful, but it's never caught me out just yet. (Pre-ticked install options ought to be banned. EU?)

Currently you can get AMD drivers via direct, mirrors, via CCC notification, Steam and windows update (slow) so you can choose whether you want auto install latests or not.

If we could trust them not to sell the address on it would be easier just to add a rule for NVidia... but can we trust them?

Fortunately my domain host (fasthosts) allows effectively unlimited addresses within my domain, so I can just add another address for every registration and see who gives/sells junk mailers my address. (It makes it so much easier to route incoming mail into folders as well).

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

I agree that the actual impact on my machine will be tiny. Actually, it will be none because I already have GFE installed for Shadowplay usage. But for those who chose not to use the features they've aid for, it's there choice, and that is the annoying bit.

NV are just making a choice for the end user now. If you wish to access a support program that you have all ready aid for, here is a hoop, jump through it.

Just a rubbish decision by NVidia.

Was leaning towards a second hand 290x in the new year to replace my GTX760 when I hopefull move the resolution of my monitors up. It's almost a decided decision now, as I don't know what else NV might do!

Going on what they say in their privacy policy they wont sell your details, although it does come with the now standard boiler plate statement on how "Any Personal Information we collect may be shared with NVIDIA's corporate affiliates, or companies who operate under the same corporate control."

Does any of this Really freaking matter? Oh no, there's, like, one little ad on my program...while it's downloading...an update...?

Oh, I don't want to use this "bloatware" (looks nicer than any of the other NVIDIA GUIs imo, plus Shadowplay works great) on my 32 GiB DDR4, Quad-980Ti 8-core, 3TB RAID0 SSD System! It makes things so much slower!

So freaking what if it takes longer. Driver downloads are never fast! Are you on your device 24/7? Do you sleep for more than 2 hours a day? Can you pull your face away from Reddit for that long?

And then the whole tracking users thing. I personally like personalized advertising. IT's a win-win for me. What, are you scared that Google or NVIDIA or Microsoft or Apple is going to giggle at your porn collection? People need to get over themselves. You're not special and it's not like what you look at is going to matter to anyone. The only thing I would be paranoid about is secure information such as SSN, credit cards, etc. but every major company has those already, every time you swipe a card or tap an NFC!

Like I said a few times, this is my personal opinion. I guess if you like living in the past it's up to you. I for one will be moving forward.

    /rant

It's exactly that attitude that enables them to get away with nonsense like this. Personally I don't want, don't need and will never use stuff like GFE and Shadowplay. The only thing I install are the actual driver and the physx driver and I am probably far from alone in that respect. Anything else is unwanted bloatware.

As for targetted advertising any company that tries to force that on me can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. I don't want advertising whether it's targetted or not and I certainly don't buy something just because I saw it in a advert. It's why I use a ad blocker in my browser. We pay enough money for our components already without them making even more money from passing our details on. Like I have said before, my data is just that, mine and nobody elses. I have nothing to hide but why should I allow what is basically spyware on my pc. Another thing is that companies have consistantly shown that they cannot be trusted with our data. There have been many major data breaches over the past few years which show that they can't be trusted.

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

I'm not opposed to GfE but it really shoudlnt be forced, its surly an optional extra & if you dont use any of the features then it would be the end users right to remove or not install ?

I'm hoping that you'll be able to unistall it after the instalation.

I cant use the game part of the software anyway as it doesnt recognise my i7 3770k ? Done everything I can & it still has a no entry sign on the CPU.

I bet we will need to start using mirrors or at least register with disposable e-mail so that nVidia gets filled with fake invalid e-mails...

I generally assume every company will sell my details on anyway and, based on the spam I get, most of the big names who claim they don't sell your data are outright damned liars.

I don't care if Nvidia do advertise on GFE, as long as their own products or stuff to do with their own products. It's my choice to click on it or not.

This requirement only applies to game-ready drivers; the standard quarterly drivers will still be available for download via the web.
